Type of students/classes at USF (Florida)?

We recently toured USF. D had started out thinking of it as her in-state safety, but discovered that she really liked it. She thought she wouldn’t like a large university, but USF impressed her!
She has been accepted and invited to be in the honors college for next year. Her main concern is about the caliber of the students. We know there are many very bright students who would be truly engaged in their classes, but D wonders if they are in the minority or if that describes a large number of the students.

Do most students there seem to be engaged in their learning and participate in class discussion?

Are most of the classes more discussion based rather than lecture? (I know some are lecture hall classes, but most seem to be around 30 students or less, based on the stats I can find.) We expect that she will come in with credits that will mean she won’t be required to take many of the ‘101’ type classes.

She plans to major in Anthropology (cultural), but knows that might change over time. She wants a college where she can be surrounded by students who actively seek out cultural and community experiences. Will she find that at USF?

bump. Also curious about the Stampede to Success day. We went on the regular tour, but are thinking of going back for ‘Stampede’ day. Then she just got her invite to accepted students day. Should we skip the stampede, or go to both for as much info as possible?

I’m a proud USF alumna…graduated with two bachelor’s degrees in 2012 and am presently finishing a master’s degree part-time at USF while working in related profession. USF is an excellent academic springboard for success…opportunities are limitless at the school. Congrats on the honors college invitation…the honors college is a super opportunity for your daughter to become fully engaged in academics up to her elbows.

More is usually better…participate in both events if possible, allowing you and your daughter to learn more about the good things going on at USF.
