I know the official date for decision is in march, but I know a lot of schools send them out whenever they finish reviewing them all. Is UW like that? AKA: when do they typically send out decisions?

Also what method do they use? DO they just send it in an email, email to check the portal, or mail?

It varies.
Letters are sent out in batches.
If you’re an in states or OOS student, the official decision arrives via mail. If you’re an international student, it is sent through email.
You can find out whether you have been accepted through the unofficial transcript trick (not indicative of anything, but it’s like 99% accurate).

If you’re applying for freshman admission, you’ll officially hear back sometime in March by mail. But if you’re feeling impatient, the unofficial transcript trick can tell you your chances around a week beforehand. Basically, if you log into your portal and can view your unofficial transcript with your student ID and everything, you’re in. And if the page doesn’t load, well…hopefully that doesn’t happen!

Where is this “portal”? Is it the NetID thing? If it is, apparently the invitations for those come out sometime in January by email, so I guess we cannot use that trick until January.

For freshman admission, do not stress about when your decision letter will come until March 15th. It ALWAYS comes after March 15th. I personally received mine on March 16 and the unofficial transcript trick did not work for any of my friends until we received our acceptance letters already. UW likes to send their acceptance in batches so I noticed that UW sends the first batches of acceptances from March 15-20 ish and first batches of rejection/waitlist letters after March 20 ish for in-state students. For transfer admissions, the unofficial transcript trick most likely always work.

You go to myuw.washington.edu then use your NetID. Once you log in, you’ll see “quick links” on the right side of the screen. Click on “financial aid” or “registration” so that you can get to the “unofficial transcript” link on the top of the page (you can also get here by using the left panel–Admissions>After being admitted>unofficial).
Unless your application is incomplete, I doubt you’ll be notified before the official notification period (March 15).
@husky1212 I tried going to the website…but realized that I don’t have an account or if I do, I don’t know my username. I read somewhere that UW would send out an email to sign up, so could it be the case that they haven’t sent out that email or should I be contacting the admissions office to get it? Either way, I don’t think it’s a huge deal since, like you said, I won’t find out before March 15.
You’ll receive an e-mail from them sometime soon (probably this month if you applied in December). It’ll ask you to follow this link: http://admit.washington.edu/uwnetid/
You basically use the same username and password you used to apply to the univ (:
I’m not completely sure as to when they’re going to be sent out, but if you haven’t received it yet, it should be out soon. I’m assuming January since winter applicants got theirs around late September (application closing date for winter was September 1). I wouldn’t worry too much about the e-mail since you already know your username and password. The e-mail just gives you a link with directions to officially set up a NetID.
You’ll get it before the notification period since they use it to contact you if additional information is needed.
You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to set up your NetID in late January. You’ll be using your NetID as your official UW email if you get in and decide to attend, so choose wisely!
