I’m supposed to start planning my schedule and I have no idea where to start… CS majors, could you tell me what a pretty normal/good freshman schedule should look like? Thanks!
thanks @cheeryParent !
follow-up question: If I have a bunch of AP tests under my belt, I can consistently take less than the recommended 15 units a semester and still graduate on time, right? Since AP tests give extra units?
APs are used for multiple things, and at Berkeley this means multiple different sets of rules. This is my understanding:
APs can be used to fulfil major requirements. In this case, the score needed to fulfil the requirement is set by the college (e.g. L&S) and is different for each AP exam. The score cutoff table used to be available online but I can’t currently find it. For math, there’s a sticky thread in this forum.
APs can be used to generate “General Credits” used towards the 120-credit graduation requirement. Generally you need a 3 or higher on the AP exam for this, but you lose the credits if you take the corresponding introductory course at Berkeley. Most graduates take over 120 units at Berkeley so this normally isn’t an issue, but in your case you may want to learn the detailed rules.

Advanced Placement exams can not be used to fulfil L&S breadth requirements
Finally, APs can be used to skip course prerequisites. Berkeley generally does not enforce prerequisites anyway, so this will only matter in rare situations. I don’t know how this is handled when it does matter.
What AP scores do you have in what AP tests?
Are there any other majors you are interested in?
