Title pretty much explains it, the typo in my essay I say “for” instead of “the,” and while reading it it’s kind of obvious.
Will this harm my chances too much?
I’m applying to CAS at Cornell Early Decision with:
32 ACT(34 superscore)
760 math II
700 chem
A mix of Bs and As 9-10th grade, all As 11th grade, quarter grades senior year was 5 As 2 Bs, but throughout the four years I’ve taken 10 AP courses and the rest honors.
unless it is going to come down to you and another kid for the final spot, it should not hurt you too much in my opinion (obv not gonna help you either)
I think students harp on the smallest things; please do not stress over this. Realize that these officers have to read thousands of essays. The common app essay that you slaved over for months will be read in 2 minutes tops. Chances are they will read over it and not even notice it the first time around. If you are to be rejected, that typo won’t be the reason why. (They know applicants are teenagers, and human)
nah, i honestly don’t think so. You’re a strong candidate and that’s what matters.
What you need to focus on now is to get your RD applications ready in the next few weeks instead of sweating over the typo. This is water under the bridge. What you don’t want to do is to have to get 10+ RD applications out if you should be deferred or rejected. OP may be a strong applicant, but there are a lot of applicants with just as strong, if not stronger, credentials.
My older kid was deferred unexpectedly from her ED school (her GC said she was a shoo-in). It was no fun to write all of those essays through tears. When my younger one applied to her ED, I made sure she had all of her RD apps ready in case if she didn’t get in. Of course because she was so well prepared she was admitted to her ED.

On a related note, don’t type headlines in all-caps.
