One of my targets, possible merit but pobably not, that is on the level of Boston College or maybe one step above (do not want to say) that I really did not want to apply to that I am warming up to since my options are still few.
Yesterday I was looking up my common app and realized that I had made a bunch of typos (missing words, about 4 here or there, no spelling mistakes) in their specific short essay, it is VERY obvious to me NOW. As in: I ______ to go to your school…The other canned one taken from another school was perferct. I did it at the last minute and it might have been one of those essay popup things (if you click bio major all of sudden more essays come up, as a side note I did not choose computer science as my second choice at some school because it added an essay). That is no excuse but if I am otherwise a good fit and candidate and my scores are in the upper end of their range and I have shown a bit of interest, will they hold the typos against me? I tend to freak out at things like that, not sure a school would as much. Plus I am applying for science not english and did get a 10 on the ACT writing. The school is also geared to science
Everybody knows a person applying to a college of such repute, and having completed so many years in high school, would know that the spelling of ‘PERFECT’ is. And even if you don’t it definitely won’t be ‘PERFERCT’.
Your typos will definitely not make you seem illiterate. What it may give an impression of is a little bit careless person. But even then, it is too minor a point to accept or reject a person.
You have good scores and are a good fit for the college. Do you think they will say no to you simply because your finger hit the R key a millisecond before the E key?
Typos never affect the application as much as students think they do. The cursory reading of the admissions officers may even autocorrect most of them in their head.
So, just take a deep breath and flush the worry down the toilet.
I agree with the above, relax.
But why would you ever re read an essay now? It’d been 4 months… There’s nothing you can do to change it…
Thank you both of you
One of my WL schools said my prospective major was an issue that their department was not what I thought and my application was slanted toward that major. So I went to look and clicked the typo application one accidentally instead of the WL one. That is when I saw the typos.
Btw I cannot spell, never could, never will. I rely heavily on spell check which this site does not have
My take is if I were below their 50% it would be held against me more, not sure why I should presume
