Hey everyone,
I’m an 8 year clarinet player who has been in a competitive HS marching band for 4 years and is section leader. I have become very good at marching and playing well, but I’m bored of not being able to hear myself on the field (clarinet problems).
I’m a senior in high school, and am applying to University of Michigan because of the school as well as its marching band. I would like to learn either marching french horn (mellophone) or trumpet during the second half of my senior year to be able to play and march a brass instrument in college.
My question is this: How hard is the U-M Marching Band to get into? I would definitely practice trumpet or horn a lot to be able to make it, but if the expectation is of someone who has been playing for four years, I’m not sure I’d be able to make it and might consider auditioning on clarinet instead.
Thank you!
