U Mich vs U of Virginia

Ok, so both are top state schools. However, which one is harder to get into for an OOS student? If you get accepted into one does it mean that you have an equal chance of getting into another?

Also, which school do you think is better overall?

I applied as a transfer student to both and got in Michigan. I'm still waiting to hear from UVA.

Virginia is probably harder.

I don't really think either is better than the other. Go to the one you like.

What do you think of my chances for UVA with these stats:

High School GPA: 3.85 weighted
SAT: 2010 (1310 M/V combined)

College gpa (first semester): 3.91 with 18 credits (Penn State).
Decent essays/ec's.

What school(s) are you applying to within UVa and UMich?

Yeah, it depends on what you want to study, but both schools are excellent.

I'm actually from NJ and transferred from Rutgers to UMich. You probably went to HS in PA and want a change in scenery, hehe. PM me if you have any questions about UMich.

I went to school in New Jersey (#2 public school). I applied to mich LSA and got in. I've applied to the college of arts and science at UVA.

I'm debating whether or not i want to do economics at michigan. Currently i'm in the business school at penn state, and i know getting into ross is amazingly tough.

even if you do decide to do econ @ michigan, you'll be in great shape in terms of job placement. most of my friends here are/were econ majors and did just fine. an important thing is to pursue a good minor along with your econ major. for example, statistics minor, applied statistics minor, or even math if you're up for it.

i don't know much about UVA, but I'm sure UVA econ and UMich econ will pretty much be the same in terms of getting a job and prestige. i'm pretty sure you'll get into UVA though.

Hey thanks for your response!

I also applied to Rutgers but since its not good for Business I came to Penn State. So, do you think its a better idea to do an Econ major/stat minor at Michigan rather than an accounting or finance major at Penn State? Also, I'm not sure what type of jobs you can get with an Econ major? Do you just get low paid government jobs? Can you also go into Investment banking?

If I get UVA, i'll go there because their business program is 2 years, while Ross BBA is 3 years, in which case i'll be graduating in 5 years. I'm gonna apply as a transfer to Ross for Fall 2007, but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting in.

I am in the same boat as you Nick. I'm a Freshman in Smeal too. My grades aren't as good though.

Did you also apply to Michigan/UVA?

I'm still thinking about it. As i said, my grades aren't as good, and i know i need to strengthen them a little more before applying..

Basically the same Hs stats, minority first generation

My gpa is crummy right now but at the end of this semester, it should be increased by a bit.

But ya, i am planning to apply to UVA/Umich/Nyu
