U of Hawaii

I see very little about UHawaii at Manoa on the boards. Anyone attended or visited who is for the mainland? Care to share any experiences or insight? What about someone from East Coast?

I’ve lived in Boston and in Hawaii. Hawaii is a completely different way of life. Things move much slower. It is the most remote place in the world. It’s one of the most beautiful and friendliest places in the world. It’s also one of the most expensive.

UH Manoa is a relative bargain and would be a great place for a young person to spend several years.

University of Hawaii - Manoa undergraduate enrollment is about 62% in-state. From what I can tell where I live, those attending from out-of-state often do have some connection to the state of Hawaii. Also note that residents of the western region get discounted tuition through WUE (1.5 times in-state tuition).

The 2021-2022 common data set (section F1) indicates that 46.2% of frosh live in campus housing. This is not too surprising, since the campus is located in the state’s largest metro area with a good bus system, so it is suitable for commuting to by many in-state students (and probably some out-of-state students living with relatives other than their out-of-state parents).
