A friend of mine and I are haveing an argument comparing the two schools. Which one is better? Reasons? A break down of which department is better in each school would be super as well! Thanks.

well, USNWR ranks U of I above Udub overall, but not by much.
It really depends on each major.
For example, Engineering, Business, Physics, and some other majors I’m not too sure of, U of I is very hard to beat.

UIUC kicks UW’s butt. I considered attending UIUC when i applied, but I didn’t even bother applying to UW…
i think UW has pretty good computer science engineering, but UIUC is even better ~

uiuc wins, hands down.

Plus, you can’t ignore how much colder it is in Madison (assuming that the UW we are talking about is Wisconsin of course)

Oh my bad,
I thought he was talking about University of Washington in Seattle

^ I think it’s U of Washington, how’s it madison?!

well i thought he was talking about UWisconsin -Madison. Which beats UIUC on the rankings. I dont know about the individual majors but overall it is better.

Udub is Washington. My friends at Washington know this, my friends at Wisconsin know this. I have never heard a Wisconsin student say they attend Udub, but have hard many people from Washington say they attend Udub.

I have never heard anyone call Washington Udub (though to be fair, I don’t know a single person that goes there). I have also never heard of anyone calling Wisconsin Udub. So I just guessed based on which one was closer to UIUC and which one was more likely to have the same students apply.

I think the lesson to learn here is that when you post topics, don’t use acronyms or shortened names that only make sense to people from that small geographic area. This is, after all, a forum that has people from all over.

This is even. It is more about whether you want Seattle (big city) or Urbana/Champaign (college town).

Udub = University of Washington. Hence, try saying UW like actually pronouncing the W then you’ll understand.

Hey smarta**, we know where it comes from. Now look at University of Wisconsin, which is also UW. Now compare UW to UW and maybe you will understand what some of us were confused about. It wasn’t what letter the dub stands for, it was what state that W stood for. I suppose it could have been Wyoming too.

UofI: Conservative, Greek, flat, cornfields, top engineering school, very good school.
Udub: Pretty campus, good engineering school, top notch medical school (means nothing to undergrads unless they get sick), very good school.
UWMadison: Liberal, super vibrant social life, strong programs across board, a notch above UI and Udub.

In Washington everyone calls U Washington Udub.

ha ha ha r u trying to be a smart a** barrons? Its so hard to tell on these forums…

What are you talking about annabanana? lol Everyone does in fact call University of Washington Udub in Washington.

Both you and boneh3ad should calm down lol. It’s not our fault that we’re trying to help you.

ha, im not upset about anything, i think this whole forum is hilarious and i was just wondering if barrons was being sarcastic.
“everyone in WA call it udub” if you stress “everyone” it sounds sarcastic, and thats how i read it.
lol i thought it was funny. because it totally sounded like he was, but like i said it is hard to tell how people are saying things on this because you cant tell if people say things in jest or hostility or sarcastically.

OK, nearly everyone. Maybe it takes newcomers a few months to learn that–just like how to say Puyallup and a few other city names. Spo-CAN for instance. When I heard a supposed Seattle resident on the show ER call it Spo-cane I just cringed.

Everyone outside WA calls it UDub as well - this is what the sports teams are called on TV.

yeah I was talking about University of Washington. Any other insights now that that is all cleared up?
