U of Illinois vs. U of Cali-Riverside...

According to US News

U of Illinois-Urbana Champaign:
Acceptance Rate
-63%
High School Rank
-57% in top tenth.
-88% in top quarter.
-99% in top half.

U of California--Riverside:
Acceptance Rate
-79%
High School Rank
-94% in top tenth.
-100% in top quarter.
-100% in top half.

So why does US News rank Illinois 37th and Riverside 81? I would think, from the stats that UCR is harder and better.

UCR's median SAT is 1070 and UIUC's is 1230.

Ok than Why is UCD is ranked lower than UI?

acceptance rates and quality of students do not tell the entire picture of how good the ACADEMIC PROGRAM of schools are.

i'm not sure about UIUC, but for all the UC's, including UCR, they only accept the top 12.5% of students in california (with some exceptions like athletes). thats why you see 100% of riverside's students in are in the top quarter or top half of their class because they HAVE to be in order to get accepted.

Being in the top 10% in California requires the intelligence of an avocado. Since when do the students make the school anyway? UI's average SAT is more like 1280.

Class rank indicates nothing in essence. Kid A might be valedictorian at School A, but at School B, Kid A might not even be in the top 20%. Like Barrons said, the Average SAT at UIUC is over 200 pts higher than that of UCR.
