University of Illinois Chicago..UIC..is it too easy too get into..or is it just me?

I was checking out University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Chicago.

Theres not much information about UIC but it seems way less selective than Urbana Champaign. On college board, it doesn't give the GPA statistics or SAT statistics..it simply says:

* 23% in top 10th of graduating class
* 58% in top quarter of graduating class
* 94% in top half of graduating class

ACT Composite: 21 - 26 99%

^^^Does that mean that they take ACT more seriously than SAT? (I have a combined SAT of 2130)??

I don't think I can get into Urbana Champaign but UIC seems way less selective.

So why are these two so different, if they are

By the by..the 99% next to the ACT scores was how many turned in their ACT scores

sou7nds pretty easy to get into...

College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics has some additional data
25th percentile - UIC 21, UIUC 26
75th - UIC 26, UIUC 31

BTW, ACT is more popular in the Midwest.

UIC likes people at about top 25th percentile in their high school class and ACT scores at about 23-25. For undergrad, UIC is 97% in state. Illinois requires that you take the ACT junior year of high school. Very few take the SAT in the midwest, in general. It is a less selective school, but it is far from the easiest school to get accepted to. Here's a link with a break down of averages by college at UIC. http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/about_uic/fact_sheets/new_student_fact_book_2007.pdf
UIC is also significantly smaller than UIUC.

I think with your SAT score you would be able to get into UIUC if that's where you really wanted to go. But yes, UIC is easier to get into but also has a ton of good programs (GPPA, for one) that are extremely competitive to gain admission to.

In Illinois taking the ACT is mandatory. Since almost all students are from in state, almost all of them submit ACT.

It's not a bad school, it has nice dorms and a nice campus right in the city.

I think it's actually "Et tu, Brute"
Vocative case...
I'm a former Latin nerd.

UIC =/= UIUC

The difference is in the power of the degree and the preference of recruiters for UIUC grads rather than UIC grads. Basically, UIUC has a lot more top-ranked programs than UIC, and is a top-tier school, whereas UIC is a 3rd-tier school.

They are two entirely different schools. UIC attracts a lot of first-gen college students, who may not have been straight A students themselves. It's very Chicago-based. It does have good programs in the area of premed / sciences, assuming the student wants to stay in the Chicago area, but has little awareness or prestige outside of Chicago. Personally, I don't think it has much of a real campus feel, and I wouldn't come from outside the Chicago area to it -- if you want a true Chicago feel, I'd say DePaul or Loyola are better choices. (Of course, there's NU and U of Chicago, but they are at a whole different level academically.)

Which is not to say that someone couldn't get a fine education at UIC. But it's very different in culture, mission and selectivity than UIUC.
