U of Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan

I am a high school JUNIOR planning to graduate in spring
'07 (college fall '07)

I live in Illinois (suburbs of Chicago)

I plan on applying as early as possible for all of these schools

U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Plan on applying Early Decision)
U of Wisconsin Madison

U of Michigan Ann Arbor

GPA: 3.81 (weighted) out of 4
Class rank: not good (top 26ish %)
*I attend a competetive upper-middle class highschool in a suburb of chicago if that makes any difference
Classes: mostly honors (3 - 4 honors classes a semester)
AP:
Sophomore - Computer Science 'A' = score of 5 out of 5
Junior - None
Senior - Plan on taking AP Microeconomics, AP Statistics and AP Amer. Govnt. next year

Test Scores:
Took SAT this month - most likely 1900 - 1950
Took ACT this month - most likely 28 - 30 (will continue to take it until i get atleast a 30)

Sports: Tennis 9/10/11/(planning on 12)
* Sophomore Team Captain and Team MVP

Clubs/EC: Dabbled in various clubs at some time or another (Service Club, Ecology Club) but not anything noteworthy

My sister is currently a senior at University of Illinois but will graduate this spring ('06).

If it makes any difference, my parents are divorced and have a relatively high income.

I am wondering whether or not i will get into University of Illinois or whether i need to re-adjust my expectations first and foremost

U of Wisconsin and U of Michigan would be nice as well.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Is your school public or private?

public high school (York High School in Elmhurst, IL)

I think you have a shot at all 3 but they are not safeties, especially the out of state schools. Apply early

Apply early to all the schools

CHeck out my schools acceptances and denials

Go to www.tcci.naviance.com/wootton
CLick on enter as a guest
go to scattergrams
look at which ever school you would like to.

that is a collection over the past 3 years 2003-05. THe school is a top 25 public high school in the nation and is in Maryland so adjust accordingly. No one here really takes the ACT. I did and uhhh i don't really want to talk about what i got :D I got a 1380 on the SATthough. Double :D :D

For wisconsin check out their site
http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/images/freshmanExpectations2006.pdf
If you get the 74th percentile and a 30 ACT it says you have a 50% shot. It also says if you fall to a 29ACT you have a 35% shot. Try to move into the top 20%. Get good grades, work hard, mess other people up( lol :)), and you should be fine. Don't mess other people up.

Whats your major going to be???

when i say apply early i am not joking. Really. I applied late though so i should be saying much. I applied in febuary for both Wisconsin and Umich. I got punished with waitlists at both schools. I think i would have been waitlisted at Umich anyways but Wisconsin... ehhhh not so much. I got into wisconsin and am waiting for mcih-not really expecting much good but i really don't care.

I am going to UMD GO LADY TERPS

Your best shot is Illinois (being an in-stater) and you improve your chances even more by applying ED.

I can't conceive of a situation where you'd get rejected by Illinois under those circumstances and yet be accepted by Michigan (which is very tough to get into for out-of-state students, especially those from the Chicago area, because there are so many who apply there). Sort of the same for Wisconsin, but not as extreme as with Michigan.

Just to be on the safe side, you might consider applying to Purdue, Indiana, and/or Iowa, all of which offer environments somewhat similar to WI, MI, and IL, and are easier to get into.

official act score = 31

Congrats!`

Michigan is very GPA/test scores oriented, so it's definitely a reach for you
