U of M For A Political Science Major w/an Opinion

Well, speaking of PS 300, no matter how conservative you might be it’s probably not a good idea to call the professor crazy and walk out…

“radical left or right people like rush limbaugh can go to hell.”
I think you mean radical left pinko commies like barack HUSSEIN obama

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/4540538/Barack-Obama-condemns-irresponsible-delay-on-stimulus-bill.html</a>
In his push for the socialist stimulus bill, the phony in the white house said, “If we fail to act, we are likely to lose millions more jobs and the unemployment rate could reach double digits.”

So how’s that stimulus bill working for you barack boy? I am sure it can’t be at double digit since we passed your stimulus bill to distribute wealth… but of course I am confident that you can come up with a lie and blame someone like you always do…

lol epic fail… http://www.heritage.org/Research/Economy/images/wm2685_chart1.gif</a></p>

lol, I love that chart.

Hey, hey, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Every little thing gonna be all right.

I’m going to have to agree with QwertyKey … Michigan itself is probably not the best college if you’re conservative. I’m from Oakland County (Troy) and most of my friends from there are the rich, white conservative kids, and no offense intended, but I’ve noticed that all they want to hear is their own thoughts, no matter how irrational. I’m not saying all conservatives are like this, and I’ve definitely met some very reasonable conservatives, but to be surrounded by people of a very different political orientation for me was extremely frustrating in high school (perhaps because they were so darned stubborn!), so unless you’re looking to be around people of very different political orientation from you, Michigan might not be your place. I believe only 5% of students here identify as Republican.

I’m taking Polsci 160 (Intro World Politics) and all our papers have been about the objective parts of world politics, so you should be safe. At least, this is taking it with Professor Morrow. He seems pretty moderate to me, some people in my class complain he defends Bush and the Iraq War too much, but I’m used to hearing much, much worse. The only problem a conservative could possibly have in Polsci 160 with Prof Morrow is the chapter about global warming. But, imho, someone who doesn’t even believe that global warming exists and is to some extent affected by human behavior isn’t smart enough to go to U of M anyway. ;-)

No, Michigan is a fine college for a conservative. It would be a poor choice only if your goal is to be surrounded by people of the same political orientation, but by that standard 95% of universities would fail. But what do I know, I’m just one of those bitter irrational conservatives who only wants to hear my own thoughts…

Political Science… Ugh.

Hahaha, couldn’t have heard a better rebuttal myself! I actually encourage a Liberal student body, more people to argue with! My only real concern is getting a poor grade because of my opinion. To quote Mark Levin, “Liberals are fun when they’re not in power.”

God, it’s so hard not to turn this thread into one big argument! :D

The fact that you are looking to merely argue rather than understand and further your views about issues triggers that you shouldn’t be in this prestigious university.

Whether you agree with someone or not, the greatest ammunition you can have in strengthening your own thought processes is to agree with those who hold the opposite. You seem firmly planted against this line of thinking, perhaps you want to try elsewhere… we only want the elite, the open minded.

You do realize your argument makes absolutely no coherent sense, right? Where in his post does he advocate not listening to other opinions and wishing to go to Michigan simply for an argument? And how is agreeing with those you vehemently disagree with anything but a logical fallacy? Listen to, certainly. But agree with? Either your semantics are off, or you’re just belligerant, in which case I’d ask whether or not YOU should be in this prestigious University. If you were really open-minded, you’d be welcoming all political and social opinions, which obviously you do not. Then again, hypocrisy isn’t exactly uncommon among Leftists students like yourself. :)

Ha, well it must have been my semantics. I just meant to say that if he was one of the conservatives who only were only willing to hear what they wanted to hear (I’m too familiar with those types, but AS I STATED there are plenty of reasonable conservatives out there), Michigan wouldn’t be the right place for you because 95% of the people around you probably would have a different opinion. I’m perfectly fine with whatever political opinion he has, I’m just not fine if he’s like many of the conservatives I’ve met who don’t want to hear anything outside what they think. But of course, I never meant to say that he’s one of them, I just hoped he wasn’t.

Does that clear everything up?

In other words, if you’re like 75% of the kids from Troy, MI, (as my roommate and my friends say, “F*** Troy.”) then don’t go here, you’ll just frustrate yourself. Otherwise, give it a shot.

liberals are just as stubborn as conservatives… so stop being a hypocrite like our radical leftist president

I think that’s a pretty blanket statement. I’ve met some stubborn liberals and stubborn conservatives, and then I’ve met people on both sides who are ready to listen to any other opinion (though that’s unlikely to sway their opinion). I’m not particularly intolerant of political orientations per se, just some of the reasoning behind them. If you’ve arrived at a conservative viewpoint after careful analysis, then good for you, I’m more than willing to what you have to say, because you have evidence to support it. If, however, you pick your political orientation because your religion tells you to hate gays or that global warming is impossible because God made the Earth (… however, by this logic God made you too, but if you treat your body like , you’re going to get fat and diseased, sorry), because foreign stuff is just evil, even though that imported good has to be inspected by your own people even before it gets into your country, or that Islam is inherently evil, that type of bull that I’ve heard hundreds of times… just overall hysteria and nonsense, I’m not cool with. If you have evidence and legit reasoning and are willing to hear what others have to say, you’ll be able to elaborate on your opinion no matter where you are.

…Better than to be Sarah Palin. Even my fascist friend thinks she’s an idiot.

“…Better than to be Sarah Palin. Even my fascist friend thinks she’s an idiot”

Similarly, even my communist friend thinks Obama’s a ■■■■■■ distributing wealth to the uneducated, lazy and poor. What are you trying to prove here with an anecdote?

I wasn’t trying to prove anything, just saying that for every political figure a conservative can criticize, there’s a political figure someone on the other end of the political spectrum, or even on the same end, can criticize. So really at most what I’m trying to show is that throwing around names is pretty pointless. Is that really going to get people to agree with you, or even like you, for that matter? No. What do you expect it to accomplish?

Misspoken on my part, the ‘agree with’ was supposed to be ‘listen to’ and ‘understand’

eh, it’s all good, it’s way too easy to misspeak, especially when typing!
