I have an 8th grade boy who dreams include attending U of M’s music theater department! Does anyone have suggestions for him or for a mom who want to do all I can to support this dream??? Thanks in advance:)
There’s no magic formula but I would say training… ballet, piano (music theory), voice, and acting. Summer programs can be extremely helpful for acting training. Voice, dance, and piano are more easily pursued throughout the school year than acting training. Good acting will set a candidate apart. Some summer programs to consider are The Performing Arts Project, Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory, and others on the list on these boards. And, grades matter as well, especially with respect to scholarships. Finally, you might consider participating in competitions such as YoungArts, NATS, NHSMTA, Great American Songbook, and Classical Singer. Competitions are great practice and good for getting feedback from auditors. Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback!!!
