Alrighty, so I am currently a freshman at the University of Michigan in the school of LSA and I am currently trying to transfer into the MT program. I missed the deadline to apply last year, so I have no idea what it’s like or if I have a chance as of right now.
I have a peer mentor through a mentorship program who is currently enrolled in the MT program, and she’s doing incredible things to help me with the application. I have an average amount of dance training and I got all the vocal training that I possibly could in high school, along with doing every available show that I could, totaling to 31. I am taking a ballet class, private voice lessons, and I’m in a small vocal ensemble here right now.
I have a few questions from anyone that thinks they could help!
I have 3 months until my pre-screen. Do I need an audition coach? Should I try to ask faculty for help, or is that too out-of-bounds for a student of a different college to do? I have always been inefficient at picking audition rep, how can I pick something that fits me and my best abilities? Where do I find audition rep? Should I use rep from previous shows I have done in high school? What should my resume look like?
I’m so lost and I will pretty much sell my soul for an in-person audition sooo no suggestion is too lofty!
Thanks so much, I appreciate everything in advance.
Cheers,
Maddie
Since you are already at University of Michigan I would make an appointment with the MT department. They are very helpful. Part of university of Michigan’s prescreen is about being academically qualified. Since you are already there I would assume you are qualified and maintaining a high GPA and had a high GPA in college. I know they also do accept a few transfers from other colleges not sure what they think of inner college transfers. Maybe you can figure out who they are and ask them some questions. i don’t recall what michigan requires for their audition but I believe it is pretty clear. Did you do shows outside of high school? With 31 shows under your belt I’m thinking you have your headshot and resume use that. Unless there is a a different timeline for transfers I would get your prescreen in sooner than later. There are only limited amount of audition spaces not sure how many are for transfers. Good luck
I would definitely hire an audition coach.
