U of Michigan parents out there?

Hi,
We are travelling from OOS and wondered if you had any advice to share regarding items to bring or not to bring. Do they provide desk lamps? Son will be in Bursley double.
How was your child's experience? etc. Would love an experienced parent's perspective on anything and everything. Thanks so much.

Four years ago I moved my son in. He’s returning for a masters this year. I can’t recall much. I doubt they have lamps. I recall that I helped him open a bank account and helped in at the bookstore get most of his textbooks. Sorry I can’t recall more, but Michigan has been everything you could want in a University for my son.

You need to bring your own desk lamp. We simply went to our local Bed Bath and Beyond, ordered lamps, sheets, containers, etc., then picked them up at the Ann Arbor BBB. It was so simple.

Helped DS with books, bank account, and got him started with the move-in. I had to leave (to get to the airport) before the room was finished, but that was a good thing. It forced him to find a spot for all his stuff.

DS loves UMich - just wishes the football team would have a winning year!

Not only does A2 have shopping but there’s a 4 anchor mall a few minutes away.

I’m not a UofM parent but I went there for law school and much of my family has gone there since my family came to this country. A2 is a great place, one of the best college towns / small cities in the US.

Bursley’s in North Campus, as you know, so he’ll be using the shuttle to get into town. The rooms are, I’d say, somewhat nicer than many of the main campus dorms.

The move in experience was very well organized. As a dad…I wasn’t needed. :)

There are stores in Ann Arbor where you can get things.

My daughter went to Michigan as did her boyfriend.

Great place to go to school.
