don't know anything about the theater program at rochester- we just really liked their ad in american theater. no mention of new york showxase/working alum- very curious about the program.....

I don’t think they have much of a program at all. I live here, am an alumnus and former med school faculty and have never heard of the theatre program. Nazareth College in the area would be a better choice, or better yet, Ithaca College, if you are interested in theatre.

The University of Rochester actually has a very solid theatre program, although it is not a BFA degree. You are a BA in the English dept with a concentration on theatre, both performance as well as technical. My d is a graduating senior and is a theatre concentrator double degree in music. Nigel Maister the theatre coordinator is outstanding and works hard to bring in guest directors and playwrights as well as keeping the students informed about internships and professional opportunities. My d studied abroad for music however others have studied abroad in the U.K. for theatre. There is a between semester class, Theatre in England that is outstanding in that they see about 30 shows in three weeks. The current shows in production are the Walker plays and the dept recently sponsored a trip to Toronto to see the newest Walker play premiere.
