My daughters’ acceptances are both in Engineering.
My daughter selected Biology as a major. Historically UofSC releases some Honors College notifications in December, but the bulk come out in February and at that time they let you know either way (yes or no).
Son just got notified of acceptance into Honors College! He is planning for Aerospace Engineering. He previously got the ‘at least 85K merit’ and we are OOS. Any idea of when we find out about invites to Top Scholars weekend?
My son just received his Honors College acceptance. We actually called admissions yesterday because we had a sudden panic thinking we had sent his recommendation letters to the wrong office. (We just had them sent to admissions by his high school.) I wanted to share that admissions told us that most HC decisions would be shared in February 2021. Also, there’s a timeline listed in the portal under your HC/Top Scholars application. So to anyone who didn’t yet get a decision, hang in there and don’t lose hope!
Congrats! My son received his HC acceptance tonight as well. From last years thread, the Top Scholars invitations were emailed Jan 17th which was a Friday.
@julielo My son’s timeline says Top Scholars notifications will be late in January
I got into honors today as well! congrats to everyone!
I am wondering if any business majors have been accepted?
I wish they would notify everyone one way or the other. We did not get an update in the portal so wondering if that means he didn’t get in?
I would interpret that to mean he is still very much under consideration, as there will be plenty more acceptances to come. Good luck!
Just means not yet. Most acceptances are in February. So will find out for sure in February.
No, there are two or three rounds of Honors’ admissions. The update for everyone whether accepted or not will be out by February.
Supposedly only a small group get acceptances now. No one is declined. And then everyone else finds out in mid-Feb.
How were you notified?
How was he notified?
There were multiple emails sent. One to check portal and one to congratulate them.
Yes, my son was notified of Honors today. Business Major.
Everyone is accepted as was my daughter. I know not everyone will be. From past notes it sounds like rejections come in February. Just to show stats, my daughter did undeclared (not sure why as she’s global studies elsewhere), has a 4.55 GPA, 32 Superscore and will have 9 AP and 1 DE. Great stats - but I think last year Honors was a 4.77 and 32-34 - so while I know U of SC was a safety, I thought Honors was a stretch. Very proud of her as we all are of our kids - but that said - getting into or not into a school doesn’t make the person - so the kids - in Honors or not - at Harvard or U of SC - still has to work their way to success in life.
What I am interested in learning about but can’t find other than one post - kids that go to U of SC Honors because it is highly rated (I know they say #1 - I only found one ranking which shows ASU and doesn’t even list U of SC…actually does Clemson)…but I realize U of SC is known as a top school - but what schools are others turning down to come. In other words, other than the one poster who said their kid turned down the other USC, Hopkins, etc. are there many kids turning down Ivies or the UVAs, Michigans, Georgetowns, etc. to go to U of SC. And then why - for the financial aspect or they truly desire. Just curious.
Sorry for being long winded - but I see all the acceptances and it’s awesome but I also know not everyone will be - and it’s ok - all kids, with the right work ethic and a bit of luck, have the chance to do great things!!
I know the post/poster you are referring to and the decision there was purely financial (FWIW that poster’s D20 earned a total above the COA which she received as cash back, however UoSC was very clear in their scholarship book this year with an * and italicized writing that you could NOT stack scholarship totals beyond the COA. Not sure if that was in response to that poster’s very popular thread resulting in a lot of calls about that or just a coincidence but suffice to say that can no longer happen). I think it makes sense that other kids making that decision (turning down Ivies) is similarly finance driven…especially when grad school is in most of their futures…not that it doesn’t happen but if you wanted to find posters who truly desired the Honors Colleges outright you might need to start a new thread. Because Alabama offers great financial incentive to high stat kids, there is a thread on that board for kids who turned down Ivies to go there, you might find something in there you’re looking for too. HTH!
I think the ranking is explained here:
It comes from the Inside Honors website and book, that doesn’t rank honors colleges from 1-whatever, but gives them “mortarboards” up to 5. The top ranking group is 5 mortarboards, and UofSC’s HC is in that top group along with 6 others nationally:
