U of SC Class of 2025 Admissions

Thoughts on the housing FB live event last night? I was a little surprised at how UofSC is changing it up this year. Housing priority now determined on housing app date, not admissions app date. And as I understand it, you have to pay $200 enrollment deposit, then wait 2 business days and pay $130 fees for housing app and deposit. Tough call for us, as D is still awaiting a couple admissions and scholarship decisions. Wondering if she waits, what kind of housing choices will be left if SC is the ultimate choice.

Are any of these fees refundable? I didn’t attend the FB event but had read on the website weeks ago that some or all deposits/fees were refundable if requested by a certain date.

We are in the same boat waiting on other things. We are not going to do the $200 and $130 at this time because we figure we lose our leverage to get better scholarships
if we’ve already committed, why would they give us more money? Also, we figure that so many people are still waiting to be admitted (I don’t think regular decision admissions are even out yet) that there will be a small % of incoming freshman ready to commit and do the housing app at this time.

I was told there is plenty of housing for freshman. I refuse to pay anything until mine decides.

@Culbreath -I didn’t hear them say anything about refundable. Will have to dig deeper.

@TMDuo28 and @cgemaj , thanks; we will probably wait at least until we hear the Feb decisions we are awaiting.

I decided to call. He confirmed what you mentioned, that they have to pay $200 enrollment deposit before applying for housing which is nonrefundable. The website does say $100 is refundable from the housing application fee if the student doesn’t enroll and cancels the housing application by June 1.

we had similar questions as the one you pose. I can tell you we are still waiting to hear from U of SC but it is high on my son’s list. We are from NY and from what i hear, there are more and more starting to head to USC within the Jewish community. It is always in the back of my mind as well, considering my son is looking at several schools with small Jewish populations. I would look at their Hillel presence and have your child reach out to them to get a better sense. Hope this helps.

My older son is second year at UofSC. He got his deposit and housing app in very early and still got a crappy dorm assignment. To add insult to injury the school announced they were tearing down the building and kicked them all out at Christmas. Not sure if being the “early bird” makes that much difference!

@Dobcat thanks. Wondering which dorms have the best/worst reps? Also, how long is the trek across campus? D is thinking there is a chance for capstone scholars, but judging from the map, that housing is way at one end of the campus.

The problem isn’t so much the distance as it is the hills! Everything seems to be up. The South Quad, East Quad and Women’s Quad are newer, South Tower is close to the Horseshoe but fairly dated. Bates is far away and dated.

Anyone have any thoughts or insight on an LLC?

We got notification about Honors College about 15 minutes ago. Decisions must be released. Sadly my son was not admitted. He is certainly disappointed in that decision. I hope others had a better outcome!

Does anyone have any idea on when regular admissions decisions will be released? Now that Clemson’s have been released, we are especially anxious to hear from USC!

We have the same question. On an Instagram post a little while ago they said there will be a round of regular decisions going out this month and then another mid-March. Wondering when the first round will be released. My D was waitlisted at Clemson yesterday and we could use some good news. :crossed_fingers:

Exactly the same situation here, except my daughter was waitlisted for the Bridge to Clemson. This is great with us, she isn’t a Clemson legacy and after a rough Freshman year her GPA she wasn’t a sure thing for acceptance on any level. So much better to still have hope. Although she’s been accepted to some private schools, we would really like a state school option. Hoping to hear from USC soon. Your answer helps @MrazFan100 - Hopefully both of our daughters will hear THIS month and not have to wait until March!

Anyone else receive financial aid emails the past two weeks before acceptance? I have submitted all the required information to FA for my son as they requested but still no acceptance answer. Just thought that was strange for FA to go to the trouble for all students if they haven’t been accepted yet.

My son just got his acceptance email. FYI for all.
