U of SC Class of 2025 Admissions

I was just seeing if they finally released stuff. I know they said April 2nd but I haven’t heard anything since

Didn’t see anything new on ours. Certainly no extra money. So disappointed

Yeah - i think they either added the superlative award - or the loan that we won’t take.

dealing with financial aid at any school is a pain. They all say to fill out a fafsa - but honestly, if you know you’ll never take a loan…don’t do it. it says we have to take all these trainings for loans and fees - things we’ll never access - we have “unfulfilled” requirements.

As a parent, it makes me feel the schools really are just “machines” and not educational institutions.

I’d the superlative award new for you or did yours already get that?

I guess I am just confused. Are they rereleasing aid all week? Or was today the last day?

Mine got an email that her financial aid was ready to view and there was a new award. clicked on the info and I don’t see anything other then the merit she was already told about and the loans. Loans are not IMO an “award”. Kinda frustrated as she wanted to be done and committ.

Same. I feel like the “changes” they’re referencing are just that they added in the loans, etc. To me, that’s not a change. The email made it seem like additional gift aid.

Yeah, nothing new. Just the standard $5,500 loan.

had - but got giddy when it said we had a new info, etc. Wasn’t new.

At Charleston, we were sent $4K more. That was nice.

that was the point of my post…

Loans should not be listed against the COA like all schools do. In fact, it should raise your COA (interest)

@dancer7381 I think you just go into your application portal and withdraw your application. My D already did that, so I can’t be sure, but I recall there was a link on the right hand side to do it.

Usually - schools have a form - because they want to track for demographic purposes where you end up.

Ugh. So should I assume no more aid is coming out? Disappointing

I think people hope schools come back with more - but in general, I don’t think it should be expected.

But I also think they shouldn’t send leading emails.

We see the FA awarded (previously received merit plus loans) but does anyone know where the actual COA is listed? I’ve seen estimates on the website, but other schools’ FA info has compared the aid against the cost. UofSC’s aid page doesn’t mention anything about the actual cost. Are we looking in the wrong place? TIA!

Here is their total costs.

Don’t forget, Honors is another $1,100.

Also, every school uses a different # for miscellaneous and transport - so if you want to compare apples to apples it’s more the tuition + room and board.

Good luck.

Also make sure to look at the Departmental Fees… For example, Engineering is an additional $3,000 per year!

Thank you! This is very helpful. I still wish there were an “invoice” so to speak, which listed all this stuff together. It’s hard to compare apples to apples when the info is presented so differently from school to school.

Thank you! Very helpful!

I think - if you know your major - go with tuition, room board, fees and departmental fees such as engineering (most charge…except Bama which gives you $2500 if you have a 30 ACT)…and Honors Colleges.

You should be able to get that from anywhere. Set up an excel side by side.

Worry less about the miscellaneous other than to know you’ll truly have them - but set up a same # for each school - such as $4K. Then you’ll be in the ballpark.

If going greek, add more.

Good luck.
