U of wa-seattle or brown. no debt or hecka debt

I am sorry for the gender mistake. However I was reffering to that these colleges both gave great oppurtunities. Usually there is a nepotism factor when you apply to medical schools. I understand your desire for the experience at Brown. I was denied this year to attend brown, but I was admitted to a school that also had an open curriculum. UR is a great school, but my family decided it was too expensive. I am going to relish in the fact that medical schools care more about ur undergrad record than if you went to an ivy. My rankings for medical schools came directly from US news and world report. Here are the links:

GOOD LUCK!!! Hopefully things will work out for us. :):):)

It is unfortunate that in our country college and professional degrees have to be some expensive. Go to UW or University of Wisconsin-Madison, or University of Minnesota( they do have a Neuroscience program.)

Debt is nothing more than the chains of slavery. It takes only one mishap in life, and adding your undergraduate debts to your medical school debts, and you will never be a free man.

Don’t fall for the sirens of marketing, most of the good students are attending good public universities.

Why did you bump this? The OP will be preparing to graduate by now. . .

I agree. Why’d you bump this… Still, it’d be interesting to see how he’s doing now and how he feels about the choice he made 4 years ago. Kind of scary when you think about it.

It will be interesting to find out how has UW experience been for who8mahrice. I am afraid my son will be in a similar position this year having to select between a good public school and UofC, Brown. I am afraid that we are in a similar position as many Americans who don’t qualify for need based FA.

I agree with NamesAre4Lames regarding taking out student loans to go to a name brand private college/university.

I would also be curious to know how the op’s outcome was. We will be facing a similar decision with our D in the coming months. I am getting advice from both extremes. Some people say not to let the opportunity and hard work she put in pass her by and others are saying save the money and go to community college or state college. So it will be interesting. I do know she will be bored in a non-competitive college.

Wow, way to count your chickens before they hatch, you don’t know if either student will be admitted to Brown…

I would say he feels good now. UW ranks 1st in USNews Medical School rankings.

Statistics have shown that people who were accepted into an ivy and chose to matriculate elsewhere earn just as much as people who decided to matriculate ivy. It’s your attitude that counts - clearly, you’re ivy material. Work hard at UW, and try the Ivies for grad school. :)
