does anybody know general reputation about U of Wisconsin madison in other countries? Especially in asian countries like korea, japan, china...
I know other state schools like berkeley, UCLA, and Michigan are really well known, but don't know much about Madison.

It is ranked #16 in the Top 500 World's Best Universities. That said, most foreign employers are unaware of this. You can gently bring it up at the interview though ;) j.k.
Internationally many employers have heard of Harvard and maybe sometimes Yale but not Princeton, Stanford, Cornell... Keep that in mind.
Back home many people asked me what Yale was.
However, graduating from a US school is always considered somewhat prestigious.

It is very surprising to hear employers wouldn't have heard about those ivy leagues...
However, does anyone else have other thoughts?

Where are you from? These things strongly vary from country to country.

I don't think its particularly known even in the US.

I live in Il near chicago. I came to the U.S. when I was very little. I am interested in going back to Korea (that's where I was born) after I finish graduate school. I have done a fair amount of research and many high positioned Korean people working in large corporations like Samsung, LG hold american degrees from not only in Ivies but also UC, Michigan, Boston, or Indiana. So I actually wanted to know what international corporations(not only in Korea but also in other asian countries like japan or china) would think about American Students.

You question is too general really. UWMadison is known internationally for many departments: Chemical Engineering and some specialty food industry adaptations involving the diary industry...........all over the world.
