U Penn (M&T) vs Cornell (Engineering)

S was accepted to both U Penn and Cornell engineering schools. UPenn is top-notch (possibly world class) for its Wharton b school as well as a joint-program M&T. Cornell is possibly the best among ivies in engineering and has a decent program in business.

Please help advise. He's good in math, science and economics. Wants to go into engineering but also would want to explore the so-called financial engineering. As far as career opportunities are concerned, which would be a better choice; UPenn or Cornell?

Any advice would be greatly apprecited.

Both are amazing schools, if money isn't an issue and there was no financial aid packages to consider then i'd probably pick UPenn.. I wouldn't turn down Wharton school of business for a million dollars.

Similar decisions to make here, however I was not accepted into M&T, but rather into Engineering. Going to Cornell on Saturday and Penn on Monday to make final decision. [also have a couple of other prospects to decide upon, but it likely comes down to Penn vs Cornell] In your son's case, being admitted to the M&T, I'd say hands down, that's the best choice. But if he doesn't want it, I'll be happy to take his place :)

iHojs2: Sorry I perhaps didn't make it clear. My S was accepted to UPenn engineering school. He didn't apply to M&T Program. However, I guess he also has quite a chance of doing a joint program M&T, or at least he can take a wide selection of courses in Wharton business program. Of course, he will need to apply for the M&T program which I believe accepts approx 50 students a year.

You were accepted into UPenn engineering school. So you and my S are going to be in the same school. Are you thinking about applying/doing the M&T Program?

^ As you point out, even if a Penn engineering student isn't in the formal M&T program, he/she can still take lots of Wharton courses, and may even be able to pursue a joint degree with Wharton outside the formal M&T program if he/she maintains a fairly high average during freshman year.
