U.s. Army Assigns Two Representatives To The Academy

FYI:

U.S. ARMY ASSIGNS TWO REPRESENTATIVES TO THE ACADEMY

July 13, 2006

*The National Guard has assigned Army CAPT Joel Buffardi, USAR and Army SGT1/c Peter Swiderski, USAR to the USMMA staff. CAPT Buffardi is a 1995 West Point graduate. He brings with him a diverse Army Transportation Corps background. SGT1/c Swiderski has a strong law enforcement and leadership background. Both soldiers have recently served in Iraq.

This assignment is part of a USMMA effort to better serve the national and homeland security interests of the United States by having more graduating midshipmen enter active and reserve duty in the Army and the Army National Guard. One goal is to have more graduating midshipmen choose to fulfill their military reserve obligation by serving in the Army Reserve and/or the Army National Guard Reserve in the state where they are employed in their civilian job in the maritime industry.

CAPT Buffardi and SGT1/c Swiderski will be assigned to the Commandant’s staff. In addition, CAPT Buffardi will serve as an adjunct professor in the Department of Marine Transportation.*

This is great news.

Admiral Stewart and Admiral McMahon should be congratulated on this effort. They have done a tremendous amount to raise the awareness of the relevancy of the Academy inside the Pentagon and especially with the Army.

This commitment by the Army speaks volumes about their leadership and the bright future ahead for Kings Point, its Midshipmen and graduates.

As they say in the Army, HOOAH!
