<p>i am not entirely convinced that the answer to that quote was Eugene Debbs (the socialist) .... i thought it was Booker T. Washington commenting that for blacks to go anywhere in society, they had to have money ......thus comparing the workers to their "bosses"</p>

The one about the intellectual 'tenth' of the African American population was W.E.B Dubois. I put Booker T for the second one, but it turned out to be Dubois.</p>
