Roll Tide!
Woot! Congrats to them!
“NASA invited 47 university teams to compete in the mining contest during the third week of May at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. On May 22, the last night of the competition, NASA officials announced Alabama Astrobotics notched the most points in the competition, winning the Joe Kosmo Award for Excellence as the top overall team.”
Great job, UA Engineering!
I wonder if MIT and Cal Tech were in the mix? Either way, awesome accomplishment!!!
Click on the link provided above, which takes you to a press release. Look for the words “With the overall prize”, which is another link with all of the winners listed by category (it’s a facebook page). Somewhere will be a list of all who participated/competed, but prob on the NASA website.

ROLL TIDE!
I love reading about these engineering competitions - especially when teams from underestimated schools come out on top.
If you want to be really inspired, watch the movie Spare Parts (I won’t give away the ending).
I don’t think most people realise that UA now has the largest undergrad engineering program in the state. I never could have imagined that’
was possible when I attended UA. Auburn was known as THE engineering school back then. And the avg ACT for UA freshmen engineers is now a little higher than the avg ACT for freshmen engineers at Auburn.
There’s nothing wrong with Shelton State as a community college, but I am surprised that the UA and Shelton competed together on the same team.
Location made it easy to work together, I bet.
Congrats to UA!
AU teams with Middle Georgia College on a lot of Aero clubs/events - the smaller schools need a major university to help their program. I think the partnering works well for both schools and gives some perspective to the bigger schools.
This whole deal makes me even more psyched for the SITE program this summer!
My husband, our daughter, and I had the opportunity to meet some of these guys and talk with them one afternoon as they were working. We were very impressed.
