UA School of Accountancy Makes Strong Showing in Rankings

[University of Alabama News UA’s School of Accountancy Makes Strong Showing in Rankings](http://uanews.ua.edu/2011/01/uas-school-of-accountancy-makes-strong-showing-in-rankings/)

That’s good to know. UA had fallen a bit in that ranking last year (of course I couldn’t figure out why, any more than I can figure out why it went back up this year), so it’s good to know it’s on the upswing. I’d like to see the full Top 25, but can’t find the list anywhere yet. Thanks for posting this.

I hope that Bama really does what it needs to do to further improve its B-school rankings.

President Witt was the Dean of the B-School of UT-Austin at one time, so certainly he would have such an interest.

That’s reassuring to hear that the President used to be the dean of B-school at UT-Austin. I will keep that in mind as my D makes a decision on which college to attend. We are OOS from Maryland and she will be majoring in Business.

Anyone have a link to the top B-School list?

The Public Accounting Report list is proprietary; if you Google it you can find press releases about it but you’ll need a subscription (or access to the ejournal) to see the full list.

BusinessWeek’s list is at: [Undergraduate Business Programs - BusinessWeek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

I have not been able to find this year’s list yet.

This may be a tad off-topic, but I thought it might be appropriate to use this thread to share with you the rave reviews I’m receiving from my son for Honors Intro to Accounting (AC 210). The feedback on his instructor, Lisa McKinney, is that she’s one of the best teachers he’s ever had and that she’s teaching the students a real-world perspective on accounting, garnered from over a decade in the business world, where she “made a _____ load of money” as an accountant (it’s not the word you think, but it’s still not suitable for a family show such as this).

Impressively, in lieu of a lab, the students participate in a UA Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility program called SaveFirst: A Tax Preparation and Financial Literacy Initiative.

“The goal of the SaveFirst Initiative is to train college, graduate, and law students to provide free tax preparation and opportunities for savings and investment to low-income individuals, especially targeting those eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.” Source: [CESR @ UA](http://cesr.ua.edu/programsandactivities/savefirst.html)

Yesterday, my son helped his first family file their taxes and said it was an amazingly rewarding experience. Today he’s in Bessemer for six hours doing the same. He said he is humbled by what he is witnessing in this program and has a new-found appreciation for the blessings he’s been afforded in life.

Yet another example of the wonderful education he is getting at Bama. By the way, the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility is the same entity that sponsors Moral Forum, the wonderful University Honors course that I’ve written about previously on this forum. It’s run by Stephen Black, grandson of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black. I think he’s onto something really fine.

Roll Tide.

Wow,
That is really impressive. Talk about real world experience. That is invaluable on so many levels, and the opportunity to help others at the same time is just great. By coincidence we were just talking about Accounting the other day. I was telling S that regardless of his major (his is psychology) I thought Accounting would be a good class to take.
