Can anyone make a comparison between University of Alabama in Huntsville and Mississippi State? Our daughter is interested in studying Chemical Engineering. We haven’t toured either one yet. I’d like to hear about the actual classes and facilities as well as anything else you can share. How difficult is it to maintain a 3.0 in order to keep her scholarship?
My son decided between Mississippi State and UAH. He is not an engineering major, so it would be difficult to comment about the difference between the two schools. That said, the two schools have excellent programs. Is it tough to keep a 3.0 GPA to keep the scholarship? A lot depends on the student. My son has engineering friends who have had no trouble maintaining a 3.0, but they do spend a fair amount of time studying. In fact, he has a fraternity brother with a 4.0 in chemE. Another will head to graduate school, all expenses paid.
Mississippi State is very rural. UAH is right in the middle of a research park.
@momreads If you haven’t done so already, visiting campuses is a great way to help with decision making! Getting a feel for the campus and students can reveal a lot. During a visit, you can have opportunities to find out how students balance school work and their extra curriculars. Often times, campus tours are led by students, so inquiring about these details would be simple on a campus visit!
Thanks! We do plan to visit both campuses this summer. I know we won’t get the feel of how the campuses feel with all students there. But hopefully we can still learn a lot.
We haven’t visited Mississippi State, but we did look at UAH for our son. I loved the UAH campus and the city of Huntsville. Huntsville seems nice but manageable, with job opportunities and things to do.
UAHAdmissions: My son did visit Mississippi State – twice. He loved the campus, the sports, the business department. But UAH offered a full tuition scholarship and some other opportunities, so that’s why he selected UAH.
