My daughter was accepted in intended nursing major at UB. She did not get in the honors school so she has to reapply to the school of nursing in her sophomore year. I have heard that the admission to the school of nursing is very competitive even for the current UB students majoring in intended nursing and they have rejected someone with 4.0 GPA in the past.
UB was her first choice of school but now she is leaning toward another private school because they have direct admission but they are going to cost more. Does anyone has detailed information about their admission process to the nursing school? I emailed the school a couple of times but never got response from them…
Nursing schools are all very competitive, and we are going for direct admit schools only because we don’t want to chance our student not getting admitted. We are from Michigan, though, and have several choices for direct admit schools.
DD was also accepted as an intended nursing major but she was also invited into the honors college, thus securing her spot in the nursing program. UB was the only non-direct entry program she applied to as her profile fit their honors college requirements.
We met with nursing admissions/student services staff on a couple occasions during her college visits. We were told that at the end of sophomore year, about 200 students are applying for 75 positions. The application for the current year is probably posted now. IIRC, they post it in August, but it’s due later than that. Along with meeting grade standards, I believe there is an essay requirement.
I’m not sure who you emailed, but I recommend having your daughter call the nursing admissions staff in Beck Hall directly. My DD found their contact info listed on the nursing page. She said they were more responsive by phone than email.
If DD wasn’t accepted into the honors college, she was not going to consider attending since she had 6 other direct entry options she was accepted to, even if it was going to cost more.
