Does anyone know if any of the UCs have five year masters programs in economics? Thanks in advance for any responses.

ya, it's a joint program for those attending UCB, UCD or UCLA and allows them to spend their first 3 years at their original UC and the remaining 2 at UCSC working toward their masters. I believe the masters program at SC is focused on applied economics and finance. go to the UCSC econ department website to check it out, i believe it's listed as "dual degree program".

Actually, at UCLA you can do both your BA and MA at UCLA under the "departmental scholar" program.

anywhere else besides ucsc?

Umm...I did just say UCLA!

Perhaps you are on Quoth's block list, UCLAri. :)

Long time no talk, by the way. Glad to see you in fact got into UCSD's program. I guess you're a forum success story (sort of).

Sort of, eh? I thought getting my BA and then working toward an MA and probably PhD would be considered a fair success.

But around here, if it ain't i-banking/lawyering/medicine, it's abject failure.

Well, I said "sort of" because I'm sure CC wasn't your own source of guidance...

And isn't your field sort of like i-banking anyways? Except without the income?

I have a field?

I thought I wanted to be a political scientist, but man...that's gone out the window.

Heh, my apologies.

I suppose I just said that about political scientists/IRists because they, like investment bankers, seem to be in the thick of it in terms of knowing about all these real nexuses of power in the world.

Yeah, I figure I have a quarter to burn through before I decide my career track here.

Probably policy. I hear that SPAWAR is hiring.

I wonder how many Taiwan experts SPAWAR has right now...

Yeah, I heard/read? you say ucla; thing is I hear its econ dept. is uber competitive, and I am being realistic.

does anyone know if the 1 year graduate program at UCSB is for adult learners or for more recent college grads? Also do you generally work and take classes or just take classes full time? i would appreciate any insight :)
