UC Admissions Scandal - Just Curious

If you haven’t already heard, read: http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Audit-shows-UC-admission-standards-relaxed-for-7215364.php

I congratulate all the students who got accepted into UC Berekely and other UCs. I lucked out on UCB/UCLA, but got into UCSD and UCSB. As I noticed the trending news today, I began to wonder if my income affected my chances of getting in.

Why would the standards at UCs be “lower” even though, whether I’m included or not, there are plenty of out-of-state students who should fit the bill of “higher standards”. I hope that students who were projected to be able to afford weren’t given preference. Although I realize the focus of these articles is on in-state Cali students, I am curious about its implications as an low-income out-of-state student with 2020(2120 - 750/710/660)/31 and 4.1 GPA, and by no means am I saying I “deserve” admission - just curious :).

Anyways, everything happens for a reason; I am kinda happy, but kinda sad I didn’t get in. But, I got good options so not complaining. I just wanted to share my thoughts :).

Basically, budget. See reply #2 of that thread.

Sadly, money is tied into everything. Everything seems to always go back to supply and demand.

I wish there was an easy way to solve the problems for all. Maybe the UC system should be remodeled into a private school system; it just has outgrown its capacity for its original purpose(serving in-state students).

Please post further discussion using the link to the other thread in post #1.
