The UC website has much of the information I have posted.

You can download a digital copy after submission but I also printed copies of my kids applications.

I recommend using all 20 slots. Instead of freshman running club, I would look for more meaningful ways to tell the UCs about you. If you like running, you might use running as your activity and provide details about participating in 5Ks or running to clear your head. Tell about what drives and motivates you and what you gain or learn from each activity.

Thanks @lkg4answers! Great advice!

Hello.

My son’s school does not allow anyone to take A-G courses or any other graduate requirement courses from colleges. My son took UC transferable CS course over the summer from local college just for his own learning. When he add this class to UC application, should he still use

“College courses taken in high school” under “academic history”

Or

“Other coursework” under “activity and awards? It says “other coursework could be nontransferrable community college course”

If they are UC transferable classes, you enter them under College classes taken in HS but under the College section not HS academic section. To verify they are UC transferable, check assist.org

A copy of the College transcript will need to be sent to the College he eventually enrolls.

Can high school students apply through the TAG program if they have enough transferrable credits?

No, TAG is only for Transfer students attending a CA CC.

HS students that take college courses prior to HS graduation are considered First time Freshman applicants and not Transfers.

TAG= Transfer Admission Guarantee

Hello, I was wondering if the UC requires all AP exam scores to be reported on the application?

No, you are not required to report all AP scores on the UC application however campuses like UCLA and UCB do consider your AP scores on the admission review. Whatever scores you report on the application will require an official score report to be sent upon enrolling at any UC campus.

Rule of thumb, report scores that will get credit which is usually 3 or higher depending upon campus and major.

https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/ap-exam-credits/ap-credits/

Is it fine to just self report and not send the AP scores unless/until you are admitted and want to use them for credit? Or if you self report do they also want them sent regardless of admission status?

Thank you for your quick response. I assume that if a student gets accepted and submits official report that shows AP scores not reported on the application, that would not hurt their acceptance in any way.

Self report the AP scores. As part of the UC provisional admission contract, when the student enrolls they must send the official score report as part of maintaining their acceptance.

The AP score report must match what is reported on the UC application so scores not reported should not be an issue especially if they will not give any course credit. Also, for any planned AP tests for Senior year that are listed on the UC application, the UC’s will expect the students to follow through and take the exam or the student will have to contact the campus to let them know that they will no longer take the test.

Thank you so much. Appreciate your help.

S23 is having trouble figuring out how to talk about high school orchestra as an activity on the UC application. Since orchestra is a high school class, he wonders if it even counts as something that he should list as an “extracurricular activity.” Also, he wonders how he should report the hours spent on it, since some hours were spent during the school day (regular class time), and some outside of the school day (rehearsals, performances).

Since it includes time and activity spent outside of class as well, it definitely can be listed as an activity. Many people include EC’s that also include some class time. In terms of hours to report, that’s a judgment call but I would suggest excluding hours spend in class but including all hours spend out of class including but not limited to performances, sectionals, personal practice time at home, etc.

For OOS application, should he list “Financial Literacy” class or exclude from the application? If included, what subject area/course category would it be? Thanks.

Based on the a-g course list for California HS’s the class is listed as follows:

Financial Literacy

History / Social Science
G College-Preparatory Elective

Hi.

I have a couple quick questions confirming if our student is doing the UC app correctly for an OOS student:

  1. Other than AP, all high school courses should be categorized as “NH” (not honors) regardless of whether they were honors, advanced, accelerated, etc. because UC’s don’t consider OOS courses as honors (other than AP, DE and IB).

  2. Dual Enrollment college courses listed on the high school transcript should be entered in the college course section and not with the other high school courses.

Thank you.
