My uc apps were

210+212+615 = 1037

Will i get penalized for this?

my 615 one is actually 610 but the application system added 5 for some reason...same with my 212 one.

they won't let you submit an over 1000 word essays, so try to cut it down. Follow the instruction: A 1000 words or fewer.

for some reason everyone's esssays have inflated word counts on the website compared to the word count shown in microsoft word. it sucks but we have to cut it down :(

i just submitted mine with 1025 total. i would say try to do +/- 10 words for each prompt so it equals 970-1030. They won't penalize you for having to read an extra sentence

Have you tried submitting it at 1037? I doubt very seriously that it would make a difference.... I know my son's essay for UC was WAY over 1000 words, but that was a few years back. But I know that if the computer accepts it, no one is going to notice +37 words.

If the system does not allow you to enter an essay that long, try going back and looking for unnecessary adjectives, (like "very"); look for sentences framed in passive voice that can be turned into active voice; and look for unneccessary connective and introductory phrases. It should be pretty easy to trim out the extra words.

I was told that the online app doesn't allow you to go over 1000 at all, but I submitted mine this morning and I definitely had over 1000. There's a 630 word limit on the 600-word one, I discovered, so I had to trim that.
