@csmajortom Berkeley does not accept CLEP or similar tests. Beyond that I have no idea.

@csmajortom did you take a foreign language when you were in high school?
@Evilcow867
On here:
http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirement/fl.html
It says that transfer students can take a proficiency exam, which I have no idea about.
@LopApo
nope.
On the extracurriculars section of the application if you mark an extracurricular as being “after 12th” it gives you a box that asks for “number of years after 12th.” It’s asking for how many years you’ve done that activity, not how many years after 12th grade that you began that activity, correct?
I know that’s a silly question, and I’m probably just overthinking it.
@csmajortom It may be worth trying to get ahold of admissions and ask about the proficiency exam. My guess would be that their exam will be more difficult than taking the required courses. Have you checked if the required language classes are offered online by your CC?
Anyone know the answer to @Evilcow867 question? I would like to know to.
Legit though guys… What are you going to write for the 3rd blank space in the personal prompts? I was going to write a 250 word inspirational story. Is that legit?
Do you think that if I have a chance? I am from UC Davis applying for EECS
GPA: 3.88(current). Units right now: 66(quarter)
One big reason for this GPA is because of a B- in film study
finished all the Davis lower division CS classes already.
I will start upper division CS classes next quarter.
I will finish Davis GE requirement by the end of spring 2016.
A or A+ in all the CS and Math classes
@nikepupu Berkeley doesn’t take as many UC-UC as the other UCs, but Berkeley does admit them. It’s a selective major but you have a stellar GPA. Make sure to get the letter of reciprocity. A kid this year got into berkeley from another UC, ended up missing one course for letter of R, UC rep suggested he might be able to do it in summer - but the upshot was, he was rescinded. Don’t take the chance.
That being said, all things being equal, I think you stand a good shot. Have a good reason why you want to switch - and not about ranking. Write excellent essays.
@EECSProdigy Didn’t you ask this exact question a few weeks ago? No one is writing an extra essay there because it’s an addition comments section, not a third prompt for an essay. Write one if you want, but I am 100% sure that’s not what it is intended for.
The additional comments are for anything that needs to be added for clarification – gap year, lower than average grade, ADHD, etc.
It is not for another essay and it says so in the app, and everywhere. Putting an “inspirational” story in will make you look like you can’t follow instructions.
KK… tf where it say you can’t put another essay? Does BSing about ADHD give you extra edge?
Is it legit to put in how I was a 1 year transfer and I couldnt do a lot of EC’s? i don’t know… Leaving it blank kinda bothers me. lol
There are no inherent advantages with being a one year transfer. I really don’t understand why so many people think it’s some special label granting increased chances or some other non-existent entitlement.
@EECSProdigy, There are plenty of one year transfers with excellent ECs – using your additional comments section to point it out will only make you look foolish in comparison. Use it to point out other positives that aren’t in the other portions of your application instead.
Why would you want to “BS” about having ADHD? Here’s an idea: be honest and put in the work required to get accepted legitimately instead of trying to lie your way in.
And as for where it says that the additional comments section is not for another essay, on the additional comments page there is a FAQ on the side that says “How is this different from the Additional Comments area in Academic History?” If you click and expand that it says “If there was not enough space in the Academic History area to fully explain course/grade anomalies or nontraditional academic history, you can use this space to elaborate. This space is not to be used as a continuation of Statements 1 and 2.”
No, “BSing about ADHD” won’t give you an edge.
@nikepupu Hey man Davis is definitely a school I’ll be applying to, I’m a CS major as well. What in your opinion has been key to your success in your CS/Math courses? I hear how tough ECS 40 can be. I’m taking my community college’s OOP and a course at a different school that fulfills Davis’ ECS 60 requirement and Berkeley’s 61A.
I’m only going to have CS 61A when they make decisions… In the spring, I’m taking CS 61B, CS 61C, discrete math(does not transfer), intro to circuits(EE 40 transfer, but does not transfer for EE16A/B), and physics: E/M. I’ve heard people have completed all the prereqs + strongly articulated courses after fall with 4.0’s and stellar extracurriculars. Do you gain a disadvantage if you have some classes you have to take in the spring?
@EECSProdigy you may want to take a second year to fulfill all of your requirements.
I can’t do that… I want to make sure I graduate before I turn 21. It is a personal goal that I have. It’s not that hard to be honest… It’s just they won’t see those grades. All of those classes except one is a strongly recommended class. If I maintain my 4.0 and have good PSs, I should make it in theory right? I’ve heard engineering majors take like 3 years( wtf???). @SDGoldenBear i’m not worried about the advantages… more of the disadvantages… Is it true 1 year transfers are looked down upon? Even with a high GPA?
