@SDGoldenBear No worries, and ok gotcha!
That is true. I know my friend 4.0 GPA but couldn’t complete pee-red rejected by EECS, while abother friend who had 3.75 GPA but completed pee-red got in.
Seems they put more weight in completion of pre-red. He didn’t have a outstanding EC but traveled to another CC just for taking a pre-req course which we was not offered in our CC.
Hey, sorry, I’m new here! Question: do we have to do the transfer admission planner thing? and up until when do the UCs look at grades? I’m confused because the deadline is by November 30? Thanks!
You do not have to do the planner. It’s optional. But the actual UC application needs to be submitted Nov 1-30. I believe you can access it on the Planner page.
@aepaige thanks so much! I’ll definitely do everything you stated above!
Guys, I need some quick advices please
I’m an International student who had 3 gap years after high school before coming back to college.
By the end of this spring, I will have spent 2 years and a half at my cc. In my first six months, I was an economic major (I completed almost all the requirements but Calculus 3 and Aced all them. Then in the next year I figured out i didn’t want to do economics so I switched to psychology. I completed all the psychology courses and Aced all of them during last year. I also took english 1A , English 1BH, and english literature (from the mid19th century to the Present)- I aced all of them. I’m also doing an internship with Stanford psych/com researchers from jun 15 to April16. During the summer I really realized that I want to be an english major/comparative literature major. So I decided this fall to change my major to English. The only issue that I will be taking 5 of the pre-requirement during the winter and spring quarter (jan16 --> jun16). What do you think I should do guys? should I apply as a psych major and then try to double major or switch or should I apply as an english major?
Thanks a looot! These last days have been tough! I really worked hard and I’m feeling that everything is falling apart.
Apply as psych and then after you’re in switch.
@lindyk8 Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! I have one more question: I just realized that UCB changed its psych requirements: I took 2 bio classes but one of them is not longer required or equivalent. I also took 2 social science classes and unfortunately one of them is also no longer equivalent. In other words, I still have to take two classes out of the 8 required (I A’s 6 of them, 8 if you count the two classes that are no longer required). I’m not gonna take them in this fall b/c I realized that after the quarter began so will it be an issue to take them in the winter or spring ? Thanks
Oh, Yes, they changed the psych req. I thought you completed them all. I don’t know what to tell you. They are allowing completion of psych pre-reqs during summer because of the switch. So you can do in winter and spring, no problem.
I might add, though, that if you want to switch to Engl or comp lit, you must make the switch at the latest by end of first semester at Berkeley- and all pre-reqs must be completed. So if you want to switch to English and there are 5 pre-reqs not done, I suggest at least 1-2 completed by spring, maybe 2 in summer, and then 1-2 at Berkeley, first semester.
@lindyk8 Thank you for helping us all! You’re a good man
I’m planning to take some english classes so I will be most likely missing one course at most by the end of the spring. I also love research and psychology so maybe I’ll just minor in English if it gets too complicated. On the other hand, UCB has no lower requirements for comp lit, which is weird in my sense.
Also, most of the UCs I’m applying to require 1 to 2 years of foreign language a college level (for eng major) but since I’m an international student (I speak 3 languages including english) does it still apply to me?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Hey guys. I want to ask is it possible to get into UCB’s L&S with only a partial IGETC? (Apply as a Physics Major) I have not (and probably will not) finish my IGETC due to the language component. I received a D in my Spanish 2 class in my HS so I probably won’t be able to get that part done. Am I at a 100% loss without that language part or is there still a chance? Thanks.
If you speak three languages there is testing that can prove that, along with your transcripts and other options.
If you really are on the fence, it may make more sense to have English as minor, although if you were really driven I suppose you could double major - although it’s not really a huge benefit.
@Sammysaad You got the best possible GPA + the best possible type of personal statement imo. You’ll get in for sure :).
@Evilcow867 1 B is not “a lot” regardless of what some turd says on here.
It certainly doesn’t help, but isn’t “a lot.” In all highly selective majors at selective universities, lower GPA students get in over higher (4.0) GPA students every single semester.
^^^ right on!
Any other EECS applications out there?
Yea I’m EECS. I don’t get how people with like 3-5 B’s even think they can survive engineering/cs… Legit berkeley classes blow people out of the water. I still don’t get how berkeley accepts people like us lol. If it wasn’t state law, i guarantee you they’d probably take 0 CC applicants…
@EECSProdigy ? Schools like Stanford, Ivies, etc. take CC transfers. Much of the purpose of CC as an institution is to get people to transfer to a 4-year university after completing GE’s and whatnot. I’m not sure where you’ve gotten that idea.
I thought CC is where all the college reject people are… I haven’t seen 1 single intelligent individual out of the six classes I take at 2 CC’s… People at Berkeley, stanford, ivies are way too good. CC is more for the mediocre people. The people who can’t genuinely afford it get legit scholarships from 4 year institutions.
@EECSProdigy Listen sir, you need to get off your high horse and stop talking s*** about everyone on here. I didn’t even go to a CC and I know that that’s absolute bull****. These people have worked so hard to go to their dream schools and I have so much respect for their hard work and dedication. Please get off this website if you have nothing positive or informative to say. I’m sick of seeing people with good shots at getting into these schools getting shot down because you think you’re a college admissions guru.
Besides, if you think everyone at CC is a complete moron, doesn’t that make you one too? So much for a prodigy.
