*****UC Berkeley 2021 Applicants Thread*****

I heard that UCB uses un-capped weighted GPA for admissions. How is it computed for out of state applicants? I understand that for capped GPA UCs do not give honors weight for school-designated honors courses that are not AP/IB. Is it the same for un-capped weighted GPA?

@superbowlwinner Oh shoot, I listed all my school honors courses as honors

@superbowlwinner. This is an explanation of how UC’s view GPA.

How UC’s look at grades and GPA:
In addition to the GPA used for establishing UC qualification, campuses may look at an applicant’s academic record in a variety of ways during the selection process. These GPA variations may include a fully weighted GPA that includes all honors grade points earned in grades 10 and 11 and an unweighted GPA in which no honors grade points are included.

@mdchang99 If OOS, no harm done. They will know that those are not UC approved honor courses…

coming out friday.

@grtd2010 alright. coolio

@screenname102 How do you know?

i have a friend who’s a regents scholar and admissions told them and she told me @johnlimster

I’ve posted before about LOR’s on the same thread, so I apologize if anyone gets annoyed. I submitted my UC apps 11/18/16 and got an LOR request 11/25/16. I have a 3.93 UW, 4.74 W, and a 4.4 UC Capped and Weighted. I got 2240 on the old SAT. Since my LOR request got sent pretty early, what does that mean? There are many different theories about LOR’s and I just wanted some input.

@screenname102 do u know the time?

Wouldn’t it be 4pm pacific? Which is when their office closes.

no idea :confused: @gingerspark99

sort of nervous because I have no idea how they’re judging this and i want to keep my hopes down bc its so unlikely but agh

@screenname102 you never know! keep your hopes up but know that you still have a chance at cal and other great schools even if you don’t get regents :slight_smile:

Are Regents nominees chosen based on the holistic review or those with the highest GPA’s and ACT scores? Possibly not necessarily just the top 2,000 highest scores but would having low scores automatically mean you have no chance?

@Alisonalvarado it’s holistic

@mario1999 My daughter applied only to two UCs (UCLA &UCI) two years ago and got Regents from both (and attending UCLA).

Congratulations! That’s great!

uclaparent9, the adcom must have identified the 'certain something" they look for in a Regent scholar. What do you think it was in your kid? amazing stats or extra curriculars…?

@Alisonalvarado @pristinechris From the interactions my daughter had with other Regents in the club, it looks like most had very high stats and very good ECs. However, there are few who had less stellar stats but exceptional ECs.
