*****UC Berkeley 2021 Applicants Thread*****

Thank you!!! @nervous17yearold & @letsshare

I put Legal Studies as my intended major (although I will probably switch to either cellular or molecular biology). Do a lot of applicants put this? Bc if not, could this give me a leg up on my application compared to someone who put CS-the most competitive? I know that putting an “uncommon” major can help you so…?

I also got LOR request!

I also got the LOR request.

I applied as a bio major. I sent two letters, one from the school principal and the other from my AP Bio teacher. Hoping for the best!

Can anyone chance me for Biomedical Engineering

32 ACT
40/45 IB predicted grades
12-15 extracurriculars including organising my own charity events

Thanks in advance!!

can someone please chance me? I applied for UCB as undeclared

  • UC weighted GPA: about 4.00
  • sat score: 1120 (very low)
  • lots of EC: joined educational opportunity programs which requires a lot of outside of school commitment (includes tutoring, summer CC class program, weekly check-ins, etc, summer internship.), intern at the hospital for 2+ years, peer educator for 2+ years, varsity sport for 3 years, key club member for 1 year, volunteer at local library 1 year, holds an asb leadership position at my school, also holds a club position
  • accepted to: UCD, UCSC, cal poly slo
  • waitlisted: UCI, UCSD
  • rejected: UCLA, UCSB

applied as undeclared for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD
some sort of biology major for UCI, UCSB, UCSC, cal poly slo

Are we positive decisions are on March 30th and not the 24th as some had stated earlier upthread?

@foreverasadcat Im sorry to tell you this but your chance at Berkeley is kinda slim since you have a sat score way below average, your weighted GPA is also a little bit below average for Berkeley. However, you ecs are pretty strong and if you are a california resident you will have a slim chance but not impossible, there are people admitted with a low sat score.

@tenaciousteen113 @LetsGoDodgers
Did you get The LOR request today?
In an international student… NO LOR request so far. :frowning:

@austingal yes, because the portal says 30th, last the portal says 24th and it came out on the 24th

No. I got a LOR request on Nov. 28th

I got a LOR request around January 1; do you think receiving the request that late, in comparison to the time I have seen most other applicants receive one, fares better or worse for my chances?

Also, can someone chance me if you feel so inclined haha (sorry I’m nervous)
SAT: 1400
GPA: 4.6
NHS pres., SCA pres., VIMS volunteer, ichthyology research project at VIMS, equestrian, went to HOBY and Girls State (VA programs), Spanish club, Spanish honor society, student leadership council, managing editor for school newspaper…
Probs more but I can’t remember haha
Thanks!!

I believe the time you receive a LOR request is tantamount with when you applied. So if you applied the day of the deadline or somewhere near there, you’ll receive the LOR later than someone who say, applied Nov. 1st. You’re probs fine!

@charcoalatey2021

@tenaciousteen113 Oh okay! Thanks! One less thing to stress over haha

Guys, chance posts are useless, college admission is way too random for any one individual to tell you whether you’ll be accepted or not. Only a few days for the real decision anyway :p.

@austingal UCB portal says 30th, and the email they sent out last month said 30th. We’re pretty sure it’s the 30th!

I applied a day or two before the deadline but received my LOR request like the last week of December…

I’m at wit’s end right now. Seriously. So far I’ve only got into SJSU, Cal Poly, and UCSC, waitlisted by UCSB, and rejected by UCSD, UCLA, UCD and most likely UCI. I don’t even know what I’m doing wrong. I thought my load of extracurriculars and 3.93 weighted GPA and 33 ACT was a good enough score for at least the engineering programs at UCD and UCI. Guess not. I’m so frustrated and sad. I don’t even understand why I got straight rejected. My essays, according to my friends and counselor, were well written and very unique (wrote about robotics in tandem with old films). I’m so scared that I did something, anything wrong with my app.

Strangely, I was deferred by Harvard College during early action…

Also, I got the LOR request mid December for my major of undeclared LNS. I’ve read a lot of differing responses to a LOR request but I was wondering if I could get a composite response on how and what it does.

I’d really really appreciate if you guys could respond to both of my concerns. Thanks.
