@ATX_Mom I just told one of my admissions friends about the gifts as admissions booster theory. She said it definitely helps and they’re particularly fond off chocolate chip cookies!
Was looking at naviance stats from my kid’s high school. Some interesting stats: over the last 4 or 5 years, 50% of students who applied to UCB from our kid’s high school were accepted, whereas only 30% of students who applied from our kid’s high school were accepted to UCLA.
is the portal down for anyone else?
**edit: nvm i think my school blocked the website
@Gumby Thanks!
@ATX_Mom sending gifts to admissions officers is a good way to thank them, but I doubt that it would impact admissions decisions. Accepting any sort of gift from applicants is a dangerous precedent, since it can lead to a culture of bribery.
@websensation I think you need to look more carefully at the number of people who applied, as well as their gpa and testing stats, which I believe naviance gives you. A 50% acceptance rate is unreal, especially since the actual acceptance rate at Berkeley is around 18%. I would think that either your school is so small that the sample size is throwing the stats off, or only very highly qualified students from your school apply to Cal.
My principle says Berkeley is my safety, but i dont really care about berkeley cuz i already got into stanford
@Wanggie excuse us little peasants then.
My friend also just told me that he rejected Stanford and regent scholarship at Berkeley to take a prized spot at University of Mississippi. I totally think that he made the right call and will ultimately be way better off at that better school.
Ha ha, very funny!
I am sorry but honestly I am just super smart! All of my friends and teacher call me lil einstein. My Gpa is 5.0 weighted and unweighted 4.0 , but my ACT was only a 35 ):. Hopefully they will overlook that bad test score and focus on the other things like my contribution to neuroscience at Harvard college last summer. Best of luck to you!! @Theoddorree
Haha it is no joke when Berkeley rejects you :))
Hey so I got into UCSB honors program, got waitlisted at UCSD, and got acepted to UCLA. I have a 4.6 weighted and 3.9 unweighted gpa and a 32 on my ACT. Any chance ill get into berkeley?
Are u joining a FRAT and r u oos
my friend play tennis at UCLA
might be a reach for you, would consider looking at safeties
@wanggle - I know few 4.0 and 2390-2400 rejections at other schools!
Thank you @Theoddorre for the reality check. And can we bring this conversation back to Admissions?
Cal’s twitter feed says they will release admissions prior to midnight tomorrow. Does anyone know what time they have posted results in the past?
What time is it coming out tomorrow?
@EmptyNestin2017 where did you see that on their Twitter feed?
