*****UC Berkeley 2021 Applicants Thread*****

I applied as a psych major to L&S

Undeclared humanities!

Does Berkeley cap its majors? And if so, which ones and how many do they cap it to? (Sorry if this has been asked before, but with 86 pages in this thread I honestly can’t remember.)

@charcoalatey2021 yes for declaring a major, but admissions to L&S is not determined with respect to your selected major. CS is an example of a capped major in L&S.

Mathematical & Physical Sciences Undeclared to L&S, I don’t really know how impacted that is (I know people say everyone in L&S goes in Undeclared but it still seems like intended major might play a role idk)…good luck to everyone <3

Mech Engineering :S

Undeclared engineering here

@mdchang99 Thank you! So they could admit you but then if they have too many applicants for your major would that then mean being admitted as an undecided/undeclared major?

@amaldo19 Intended major will not directly play a role. If it is something you convey in your essay, it may. I mean if you choose a major and decide to write about it and your writing is subpar, that will obviously raise some eyebrows. Or if you choose a major like classics and you haven’t taken any advanced english or history classes or had any extracurricular experience with it. I wouldn’t say this is my 2 cents, more like common sense. GOOD LUCK!

@kibbles Lol well no, I’m not anxious about Berkeley. It’s just that what @roonilwazlib100 said really rang for me. Recall tomorrow is Ivy Day as well? Well, tomorrow I find out if I got into my dream school - Brown! It’s just that this is the UCB thread, so I figured I’d say what I was thinking but not say what university I was thinking that of, as I wanted to keep with the theme (UCB thread). I’m sorry I confused you.

@wormholes Thank you! I was ecstatic to receive that Cornell likely. Will probably end up going there if I don’t get into Brown tomorrow!

i applied for film and media studies

@charcoalatey2021 everyone is undeclared, like at most public colleges. you will declare your major in soph or sometimes even junior year. every major’s department sets its own requirements. capped majors like cs have “adjusted” requirements to control to flow of students into the program. FOr instance, there is now a3.3 gpa requirement in the 3 intro CS courses to declare the CS major. Whereas, in the past, it was a 3.0 in like 4-5 prerequisite classes

@mdchang99 Oh ok I understand now! Thanks for clarifying

I think I applied for Integumentary and Pathology. Or something like that.

Sustainable Environmental Design

@PinkQuetzal9 Hmm, i think it might have been immunology. it’s a more sensible pair

@mdchang99 Yes, that’s it exactly! Immunology and Pathology. Thank you.

Good luck everyone!

I applied to biopsychology haha

Any biopsy-kid?
