high gpa is the most import for admission even though they have an amazing ecs and awards. So those who has with lower gpa and amazing ecs amd awards was asked for recs.
@vicangie A computer algorithm probably would use quantitative data (UW GPA, SAT I, ACT scores) first rather than use qualitative data (ECs and Awards). The algorithm seems to be more interested in finding out Maybe/Nos. Human readers can do a better job later reading about ECs and awards.
My son has a high gpa and high test scores and he was asked for LOR’s.
According to last year thread, many Regent winners were asked LOR’s…
@ttkk48 The computer algorithm is also used to send LOR requests to Yes candidates. It seems that the majority of LOR requests are sent to Maybes, as per the video. This scenario is not mutually exclusive.
@grtd2010 this is just my thought… i think Maybes mean “Regent maybe” and “Admission maybe”… because To send LOR request to Yes candidate is meaningless and waste time for both Admission and students.
Lor request has come to international applicants also… and i read in the websites internationals are not considered fir reagents…
OOS and international should have another story. Admission office has lots of CA high school’s data. so OOS and International should have more chance to get LOR request than CA
@ttkk48 Please watch the video. The professor has a graph showing probability for getting LOR request for Yes/Maybe/Nos. The data presented is for California applicants only. The admission policies are different for L & S, Engineering etc. The LOR request can also be made after human reading of the application. There was a 20% overlap (intersection in set terminology) for LOR requests generated by computer algorithms and human readers.
Yes but then in international also few students got lor request and few hav not
My son is a CA EECS applicant.
@USUG21 Did you apply to EECS ? It may a different story for EECS. I do not think the video mentioned any thing about Engineering admission policies.
Is it possible to get Regents without being asked for a LOR?
@ap012199 Are OOS considered for Regents?
@grd2010:
From the UCB website for Regents::::
Faculty select candidates from the top entering applicants who have been admitted to Berkeley, as determined by a holistic review by the Academic Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid.
California residents and a limited number of out-of-state candidates are invited in early February for a one-on-one interview with a member of Berkeley’s faculty. Interviews take place in late February and March. Notification regarding disposition of candidacy is made by the end of March.
International and transfer candidates’ admission files are reviewed by the Committee on Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aid.
My student is an OOS Regents scholar and was not asked for LOR.
prepped parent, which year did your student receive the Regents scholarship?
And what about possibly finding out in February? I think I have a really slim chance of getting Rengents but I’m from CA so that might help. Is it the top 2% who find out early?
last round
I was told by many that I’m a high chance admit for OOS EECS (35 ACT w/ 36 in Math and Science, 4.0UW, 4.6UC, 800M2, 800 Chem, lots of leadership and SciOly medals), but I did get a LoR request two weeks ago. Many of my friends, who applied for much less competitive majors and similar stats, also got them two weeks ago. However, the kids in my school who were not as competitive received their requests a month ago…
Why would they send it so late to the high stat people and so early to the low stat people?
