@olliepopluv 7th semester grades are not used during the admissions process for UC’s. only 3rd thorugh 6th sem (10th and 11th grade) are accounted for uc admissions
I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA and an ACT score of 34 (36E, 33M, 36R, 32S). All my classes have either been honors or AP. I have gotten a couple B’s and the rest A’s. My school does not weight GPAs. I haven’t heard anything from UC about LOR’s or transcripts. Is that a good sign or a bad sign?
UC’s do not ask for Mid-year transcripts and not getting an LOR request means that your neither borderline nor in the running for possibly Regents. Either way you have not been rejected. Be patient and hope for the best.
hold up, so if you didnt get an LOR youre not going to get regents? lol rip
I heard it is too early for regents LORs.
Is there anyone who asked for Lors and transcript in Jan??
@vicangie I was asked for LOR on January 15th, the deadline for submitting them. OOS applicant.
is there anyone who was asked transcript yet??
If you got a LOR request does that mean you have a chance for regents? What exactly does LOR request imply?? And do they read them??
Oh no I don’t expect to get a scholarship from a top school like Cal. But I haven’t been asked for an LOR, and it seems like from this stream, that means either that you’re on the fence for admission or you’re being considered for a Regents. Would a 34 and a 3.9 UW likely be in the middle of those?
@mgb1311 Yeah same I didn’t get a LOR request either and we have pretty similar stats (I have 35 ACT and 3.97 UW/4.54W). I saw that many people think it only goes out to maybes and regents candidates, which makes me a little sad now LOL. In the past, a lot of people at my school with stats like ours were invited for a regents interview but idk now… Is it based mostly on scores or holistically??
@sadsenior 3.96UW/4.27UC/33 ACT; I suppose it’s holistic. If it were based on scores, I’m pretty sure all of us in the 99th percentile would get regents interviews. @mgb1311 What is the middle 50 at Berkeley, like 3.85/4.1/32 lol?
From an article I read, it seemed as though most UC schools were opposed to incorporating rec letters into the admissions process as they felt strong rec that letters were more easily obtained by students of affluence, especially by those attending private schools. Despite this, advocates of the letter have pushed state education boards to hold a trial period, which seems to be this year, during which the schools will survey prospective students to determine if geographic and economic factors correlate strongly with a student’s ability to produce a strong letter of recommendation. The article further stated that submitted letters would have little to no impact on the admissions decision.
@PhoneRed35 that’s really interesting. where did u read this? I feel as if that probably has some truth to it although I don’t know how big of an impact. I personally go to a really large public school and think it’s pretty sad when schools require a counselor rec since each of our counselors is responsible for 500+ students and there’s no way they’d be able to know us personally, haha.
Does anyone know when they will release the honors program notification?
Is there a possibility that international can be candidates for regents?
@vicangie: Yes International applicants are considered.

This article suggests that LOR are targeted to students “mainly those whose prospects are between certain acceptance and rejection”
@ak1999 Wait what? Isn’t that like…everything? So students who didn’t get a LOR are either already in the trash or have already been rejected? My friend got a LOR a week after he submitted his application. It seems to early to make a decision already. I thought the whole selection process was random??
