Unless you are IGETC cert at your CCC. I was accepted with 2 years. I made it clear on my application that I completed less than 3 years of foreign language in high school. Accepted to L&S department

its 2 years of HS Foreign language or 1 year at a CCC (2 semesters)

So if you're transferring to Berkeley from a CCC all you need is two years of the same foreign language from high school and that's it? Who is the 3 years of foreign language aimed at? (or is that just a mistake?)

edit: For Haas it says that you need courses comparable to the third year level of any foreign language.

Is this true? Or can IGETC fulfill this? (two years of foreign language in high school)

According to the IGETC literature at my Community College, you only need 1 semester of a foreign language. A total of 4 semester units.

From IGETC handout: "Area 6 - Language other than English - UC Requirement only; 1 course, 4 semester units." or completion of two years of the same foreign language in high school with "C" or better.

Yeah, but the problem is that Haas has its own set of requirements that is different from IGETC and foreign language is one of them. So basically you need three years of the same foreign language from high school or two courses of the same foreign language in CC (i.e. Spanish 1 and 2).

Considered sending some more transfer apps out? Some places are still accepting apps...

Sorry I didn't catch that we were discussing Haas. After reading your original post I ran and grabbed the IGETC handout to make sure. I've only completed 1 semester of a foreign language and nearly had a heart attack! lol

Sigh... sorry to hear about that buddy.. But there is some good news in all this mess... That light at the end of the tunnel...

This is my 299th post.. just 1 more and I'm a member... Wow.. It's been a long journey.

I spend too much time on these boards..

okay, well before I even applied to berkeley i saw an advisor for transfer students and she told me that I needed to take the second semester of a foreign language in college (which is equivalent to the third year of highschool foreign language)

don't know about cc, but 4 year transfer to L& S must do 3 years of same language. had HS 2 years jap. and 2 latin -- not enough; did 10 q units in winter. now study abroad and finishing FL through correspondence course that has to be done before summer. at least for 4 year transfers to L ans S UCB was pretty strict. there were very few other requirements. other uc schools only had 2 year requirement, i think

I GOT APPROVED!!

phew....
