UC Berkeley Appeal (2014)

We probably won’t hear the next wave until the 27th (Tuesday) because memorial day is on Monday… Unless they have it all per-programmed to send out decisions automatically, but I doubt that.

@Bookham
The decision dreams are coming back again -_-… I remember this from original application time.

So basically I need to pay my UCLA housing deposit fee… yaaayyyy… :L

@cmztreeter007
I may have to do that too >_<.

@Anxiety94‌ omg yes! ive had 3 seperate dreams where i checked and i got in, and then i was like crap this is a dream, but maybe its a sign lol, so i force myself to wake up at whatever time and check to no avail :l
@cmztreeter007‌ its not too bad, only 30, not like the 100 for an SIR -_- i did it awhile ago, cause i originally didnt plan on appealing cause i didnt wanna go through the stress again just to be rejected, but someone changed my mind

@Bookham Its actually 420 dollars for the initial payment, which my dad is okay to let go if I get into Berkeley. Though I feel bad wasting so much money…

@cmztreeter007‌ wait what? where is that at? i dont see any 420 dollar payment…

@Bookham Its in the BruinBill . Didn’t you confirm your housing around the 16th of May I think? It said an initial payment would need to be paid by the 27th of May.

@cmztreeter007‌ hmmm… well i submited my housing app on the 16th and i dont see anything on BruinBill … by confirm do you mean that they sent you a confirmation letter of you housing app or something? cause i havent recieved any confirmation letter or anything like that but when i go to the housing app itself, it says ive already submitted one and asks if i wanna update it n stuff like that

I guess I need to look into paying that bill… I hope the next wave comes in early on the 27th!!

@cmztreeter007‌ is the 420 thing under fall 2014? cause i only see fall 2013, spring 2014, and winter 2014…?

@Bookham Wait I’m super confused too right now. I have 420 dollars due on all the three options. No fall 2014 option for me. Is this suppose to be like a placement for all the three terms? Like if I pay one of them, the others would go away?

If I go to “Make a Payment”, it shows a 420 dollars bill with no specific term for which I would pay for. I guess thats how we are suppose to pay for Fall 2014 housing.

yea idk, i asked my friend who happened to submit the housing app the same day i did, and she said she has no idea what the $420 thing is either cause it doesnt say anything about it on her bruinbill

My son originally applied for UCB BA computer science. Appealed and got admitted this week. Online appeal results says - Admitted to Letters and Science". Doesn’t mention BA CS. ‘kilik9500’ mentioned about being admitted to L&S Molecular cell biology but my son’s appeal letter doesn’t mention CS. Does this mean it is undeclared? Will find out next week when I call them. Is this typical for everyone? Someone I know BA CS has 3.0 GPA in seven courses specified by CS dept to get admitted into CS major after sophomore year. Any inputs will be appreciated.

@chickoo
I’m not 100% on what the appeal approval should say, but I do know that UC Berkeley admits people into specific colleges, and afterwards, they are supposed to declare their specific major by applying to it. I am awaiting my appeal decision still, but that’s how it works for L&S as far as I’m concerned. The offices open again on Tuesday, and I would certainly call to ask. Congratulations to your son’s acceptance though… it must be so exciting to become a Berkeley parent!! :)

My app says before June 2. I’m thinking probably next Friday they’ll it’ll come out.

@chickoo you have to complete the lower division prerequisites before you can declare the CS major I think. And the BA is in the letters and sciences school, so once he does the prerecs won’t have any trouble getting in.

Thanks for the replies. Being late in admission process and given that he needs to enroll into lower division CS prereq courses, we need to ensure the seats are not already filled for them. Once it is confirmed, he is in. :-)

@chickoo‌ first off congrats to your son! Well you too, you must be proud! As for your question, I believe that for the college of Letters and Science, you are admitted to the school itself, but not necessarily the major so you gotta declare it once enrolled there. Also of you don’t mind me asking, what did your son wrote about in his appeal?

@Bookham - Not much. There was one student in his who got little less than him in academics and relatively less non academics, was selected through normal process. Friends encouraged that it doesn’t hurt and worth a try. I didn’t expect it. He just requested for reconsideration. Highlighted that he took 12 AP courses(5 of them this year), active participation in debate, science club, hackathon etc. Personally don’t think L&S is a big deal since he is not guaranteed for CS unless he gets 3.0. Heard getting 3.0 in CS courses is not easy. Hope he will make it through.

Any new updates? My appeal has yet to receive a response, and an individual from my high school has already heard back and was denied. I’m just a bit nervous at this point.
