I have a 1330 sat score. I have taken 4 ap classes and I am in the top 9% of my school. My gpa is what brings me down. My freshman year was rough so I only have a 3.8 gpa. I applied as a philosophy major. Do I even have a chance? I was rejected by UCLA
Your chances are pretty slim. You are slightly below the fiftieth percentile of average GPA and SAT scores. This is not a desirable position to be in; to expect an admission, you should be in the upper quartile of accepted students. The upper quartile is 4.44 GPA and 1480 SAT. Unless you have truly exceptional extra-circulars, your chances of getting in are pretty low.
Thank you for your honesty. I expected I’d have a low chance
You should calculate your UC GPA as it will be different from your standard UW or W gpa. They I’ll knock out your 9th grade grades and put a cap on weighted grades. That will give you a better idea. As for test scores, UCB admits a broader range than UCLA.
Does your school use naviance? That would give you a better idea than random “chance me” posts as it’s based on what stats from “your school” have a good chance at getting in. Some schools graduate a ton of 4.+’s but others grade harder. Some schools have different offerings and so top GPAs look quite different. What test scores that are accepted can vary from school to school to school too.
With an acceptance rate of 17 percent, no one should ever think UCB is a sure thing but everyone is allowed a reach school or two.
