***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

Has anyone taken a look at this http://academic-senate.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/committees/aepe/freshman_policy_revised_approved.pdf yet? Do you guys know what it means? Are the people who were asked for LOR the"Possible" Recommendation?

So no email as of now from Berkeley = no regents?

@Dan786 Dan congrats on the email! Do u mind posting your SAT and gpa and intended major? And a low sat is all a matter of perspective

@10s4life Thanks. GPA - 3.93 Unweighted. SAT - 1860, and Computer Science Major.

“Both undergraduate and graduate degree seekers must first be admitted to the university through the regular admissions process before they will be considered for the MasterCard Foundations Program Scholarship.” This statement from UC’s site got my hopes up.

Wait… were the 2000 number people notified of this a month before…? Or is it possible to receive one on Feb. 12th even though you didn’t receive email before?

@lolacell Its very possible, cause I only got mine on an invite.

Did anyone here apply to a major in the College of Environmental Design? Share your stats!

@Dan786 @Malcomx99
I just have few questions.
You guys said you all applied for Mastercard scholarship thing. But, How? Did you guys get invitation for that?
Also, you guys are both international applicant. In the past, international applicants did not get invitation to interview for Regents and Chancellors scholarship thing.
Do you know if anyone that is not international applicants got email saying your decision will be on Feb. 12th?
Can I also ask you guys to copy and paste the actual email message received?
Thanks…

@hansomeboy I just looked up the MasterCard scholarship (I had no idea what it was either), and here’s the link: http://admissions.berkeley.edu/mastercardfoundation

Here’s what it said: “The University of California, Berkeley has partnered with The MasterCard Foundation in a collaborative, global network of education institutions and non-profit organizations that believe education is a catalyst for social and economic advancement. The future of Africa will be shaped by its young people, including those talented, yet economically disadvantaged students who face significant barriers to accessing quality education. The Program aims to benefit 15,000 young people over 10 years, mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa. At UC Berkeley, the Program will provide comprehensive financial, social, and academic support to 113 students from 2012 to 2020, and is open to both undergraduate and professional Master’s students.”

I don’t think this program is available to students in the U.S., but I could be wrong…?

@Applications @hansomeboy Only Applicants from sun-Saharan countries are eligible for the scholarship. You have to get an invitation to apply though.

I read this statement from UCB site — “Both undergraduate and graduate degree seekers must first be admitted to the university through the regular admissions process before they will be considered for the MasterCard Foundations Program Scholarship.”

I am not sure, but I think we have to get accepted first inorder to get an invite.

@Dan786 I also got the Mastercard Invitation. I’m an international student as well

@jorgelorenzo Glad to hear from you. Do you think that we might have been accepted?

According to those who got them last year, all who got the interview were accepted but some missed on the scholarship. @Dan786

@jorgelorenzo So, there were some applicants who we were invited to apply, but didn’t get an interview.

Yes. To get the interview means you’re a semifinalist. They’ll come next week, but then you can comfortably say you’ve got into Berkeley @Dan786

@jorgelorenzo Oh…I really hope we get an interview. I am just afraid, cause I have pretty low stats.

Don’t be. My friend had similar stats as yours and He got in as a Cs major MCF scholar. You’ll be fine @Dan786

@jorgelorenzo I really hope so. Where are you from? Were you asked for LOR?

I’m from Kenya and yeah I got the LoR request.
you?
