***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

I was thinking when I said top 2%, what exactly does top 2% mean?

@Mysonsdad look at the previous comment

@Mysonsdad yo idk where you got that number from, but berkeley finally broke 100,000 applicants this year. they had 96 last year. from their newsletter:
“A total of 101,655 prospective freshmen and transfer students have applied for admission, up from about 96,000 student applicants a year ago.”

@Mysonsdad it comes out to about the top 2 percent, which is similar to UCLA regents candidates.

So when are decisions coming out for Regents?

@fondbutnotinlove But the scholarship thread said that “perspective freshman” and that 2,000 students going to be notified.

Look at the fifth and eighth paragraph.
http://news.berkeley.edu/2016/01/11/more-than-100000-students-seek-admission-to-berkeley/
and then it says, “The changes regarding early notification and letters of recommendation do not apply to transfer applicants, who will learn of transfer decisions April 29.”

So it should be 2000 out of 82539 or 2.4%, correct?

@McKilla99, I was referencing the above post. I should have mentioned Skywalker…

@Mysonsdad I’m pretty sure transfer applicants who have 4.0 records from their previous colleges have a chance at regents candidacy.

I think we are the ones coming up with this whole “top 2%” idea. Berkeley most certainly does not just plug our SAT/ACT scores, GPA and ECs into some sort of software and find out who’s the cream of the cream (or so I hope).

By now, they should probably have finished giving a first reading to all freshmen applications, and when they spotted a “Regents Finalist”, they knew it. So no, I don’t think it’s automatic like “those are the students with the top 2% scores and grades, then they are Regents Finalists”.

Refreshing my email every 15 minutes

@fondbutnotinlove, but they are not part of the 2,000 being notified today.

@Skywalker11, for lack of a better term I said “top” perhaps I should have just said, 2.4% of freshman applicants. Does that make sense? But even if you take out SAT/ACT/gpa, the applicants who are invited to Regents would be “top” candidates in one way or another, right?

Indeed now it does @Mysonsdad

It’s just weird to think “top” since it would infer that the applicants are all ranked or something, which I don’t think the adcoms have time to…

Good luck to you @skywalker11 hopefully you and my S and others on here all get good news in the next hour or so.

Do you by chance know when the results are supposed to be released? And, BEST OF LUCK!

I heard something about 2pm PST, but probably @10s4life is right

Within the next hour or so. On another thread someone said last year they got it just before one and someone else said they had it by two.

Best of luck to everyone! (And please post an update here if you are accepted to de-stress your fellow CC’ers)

Good luck to everyone! And remember, if you don’t get accept today, do not worry because most of the acceptance letters will come out on the 24th of March

do they email you if you get in?

@wuchengdavidlu yes, they do.

Is it emailed or does it come on your UC portal?
