Does anyone have any idea when UC Berkeley disburses it's Fall 2011 financial aid into Bear Facts/Car Accounts? I got a bill for my son which is due August, but I'm waiting on the disbursement. I'm also anxious to see if they "adjusted" his FA due to the recent University of California tuition increase.

If your aid covers the entire tuition (fees) and dorm, then you don’t have to worry about when the money arrives, they will back date and waive any late fees once your financial aid arrives. Some things can come in late- Byrd, Alumni, private scholarships, etc.

I think the bill is due in August and most of the aid should be credited on that bill. You might email with your assigned financial aid rep so you have something in writing, but just confirm that you only pay the part that is scheduled to be unfunded and that they will fund the rest as the money comes in.

Usually spring money is all ready to go when the bill is due.

PS: Be sure your son applies every year for the Alumni scholarship.

@ Somemom - Thank you for the info. My son did receive the Alumni scholarship, and FA accounted for that. But that’s only good for 1 year? I was wondering about the loans. Apparently, fees are due 10 days before school starts?

Yes, one must reapply each year for the Alumni award, but it is possible to get it all four years.

I am not sure on the loan fees as we used a home equity line rather than student loans. Don’t they deduct the fees when the loans are disbursed? Or do you mean Cal fees?

I meant total fees and tuition. Thanks, somemom! :)
