Got a triple in Unit 1, my fourth option … so we’ll see how that turns out as I wasn’t anticipating a third person – all the other options were for doubles. How did you guys’ housing offers go?
My son got a triple in Unit 3. Not any of his choices! Ugh!
I got a triple in Unit 2, not one of my choices either. Oh well. Twice the roommates, twice the trouble. Or twice the fun
I got a Foothill double suite, which was my first choice. I guess nobody likes Foothill LOL
Got my first choice, mini-suite in Unit 1! I’m starting to wonder if Clark Kerr would’ve been a better option since their rooms are supposed to be huge.
Exactly the same here, @USCMom84 . Son got a triple in Unit 3, which was not among any of his choices.
btw, I see that there’s a UC Berkeley Unit 3 Class of 2020 Facebook page, so my guess is that there are similar pages for the other dorms where everyone can get to know each other
I got a triple room at Clark Kerr… wasn’t any of my choices. Anyone know how far it is really from campus? I’ve heard it’s really inconvenient but I’m not sure what to expect.
@CCMThreeTimes So weird! Are you going to try to change?
My son is actually fine with Unit 3, @USCMom84 , so I don’t think he’s going to request a change. My main concern is that he put in for a double because he’s rooming with a friend of his. He received a triple; I hope that the third guy doesn’t feel like an outcast rooming with two good friends. My son is outgoing and friendly, but it still might be a little alienating for #3.
As far as having three crammed into space meant for two… well that would drive me crazy, but he stayed in a triple during the overnight stay program, so there were four in the room, and he thought it was fun. We’ll see how long that sentiment lasts!
My son is also in a Unit 3 triple after putting doubles down (in different buildings) for his first four choices. He didn’t put suites down at all and my guess is that they won’t assign you a higher priced option than the ones you selected, only possibility is to get lower priced options. Oh well. He’s not thrilled, but it saves us a few coins :).
@jsstag My son put double suites down. Sorry to contradict your theory.
@jsstag and @CCMThreeTimes Have your sons requested roommates?
@calamity : The entrance to Clark Kerr is 6 short blocks from the SE corner of the campus (where the law school is). It’s then three long blocks (about the same distance) down Bancroft (the southern boundary of the campus proper) to the “main” entrance (Commons/Sather Gate/etc.) It’s not as convenient as many dorms but not that bad. (Having to walk up Hearst (steep hill) to the Foothill dorms could be a lot more strenuous and CK is actually more convenient to the top of campus and the football stadium than a lot of the other dorms, so it’s a mixed bag.) I’m pretty sure that your student ID lets you ride the 49 AC Transit bus (stops right in front of CK and then goes down Bancroft) for free. Is it possible to switch from a triple mini-suite to a regular triple after the housing offer deadline?
@USCMom84 Hi there. You were more generous than me in allowing your son to put the suites as a choice :), but what they gave him was in fact less pricey. What I’m theorizing is that they won’t assign something that is more expensive than what the applicant was willing to put down as a choice. But I could be wrong.
To your question: no, he hasn’t tendered a roommate request, although I have encouraged him to go on whatever sites are out there to see if someone (or two, since it’s a triple) might make a good match.
@calamity There is also a UC shuttle that serves the Clark Kerr campus.

Clark Kerr rooms are huge and your triple will be nothing like the small triples in the units.
@Kyuutoryuu My son loved his suite at Foothill and his 3 roommates (off campus apartment) are all friends he met at Foothill.
Foothill is very nice. D stayed there for a few weeks one summer when at the Berkeley camp for high school debaters. But a long walk up the hill at the end of the day. Don’t think they ever figured out the shuttle schedule (or maybe it had stopped running by the time they were through cutting cards).
@USCMom84 – son and a friend did select each other as roommates, which is why they wanted a double. Now the poor random third-wheel roommate might feel like an outsider, but I hope not!
