Hi Everyone,
I got admitted to these three schools and it is really a tough decision to make. Personally I prefer small class-size and interaction with professors and fellow students but I also focus on a good career after graduation. I want to major in Maths and/or Econ, engineering is also acceptable but not favorite. And I hope I can go to a intellectually challenging school for the next 4 years.
Many say the size of Berkeley is too large and I have heard stories that people even don’t know their advisors and some classes have several hundred students, but on the other hand Berkeley has good ranking in Maths and Econ. I am wondering if I can find good internships and a job if I study these two majors at UCB because Silicon Valley may favor CS and engineering students more.
My offer at CMU Engineering is restricted, which means I cannot study ECE, the major that secures a good job. And I have heard rumors that there is cut-throat competition and stressful coursework at CMU. But other people say Engineering(excluding ECE) at CMU is great and chances are I would get a good job as long as I graduate with good grades. I think I could learn a lot at CMU through the program, but I wonder whether it is very likely I’d get a job after graduation.
Vanderbilt kind of meets my requirements for small classes and good professor-student relationships. But according to US News Ranking the Econ and Maths programs are not so good (worse than that of Berkeley’s). And Nashville is a small city, I also heard that there is racism. Since I am Asian, I wonder if that’s true.
Please give me some suggestions regarding choosing those schools and thanks a lot
