UC Berkeley Letter of Recommendation 2021

@Gumbymom hey i have a question about uc gpa. does it change my uc gpa if i have 1 honors course and 1 ap sophomore year but 4 aps my junior year? or shud my uc gpa remain the same

Is the Honors course UC approved for the extra points?

The capped weighted UC GPA limits the extra Honors points up to 4 semesters Sophomore year and 4 semesters Junior year. The fully weighted UC GPA will take into account all AP/Honors classes. If you use the Roger Hub UC GPA calculator, it will give you the UW UC GPA, Weighted Capped UC GPA and the Fully Weighted UC GPA. UCLA/UCB are the only UC’s that actually state they use the Fully weighted UC GPA.

So based on your question, your UC capped weighted GPA will be lower than your Fully weighted GPA.

@Gumbymom on the uc a-g website it says honors to the side not including the name of the class. is it possible that my school has calculated my uc gpa incorrectly? i am asking this based on checking to see if i am elligible for statewide path

So what class is the Honors class? For most California HS, only Honors Physics/Honors Chemistry and Honors Pre-Calc are UC approved.
Also, usually the HS does not calculate your UC GPA. My son’s HS had their academic GPA listed 10-11th on their transcript but they gave extra weighting to the non-approved UC Honors classes also.

If you plug in your grades into the Roger Hub UC GPA calculator and your Honors class is UC approved, what do you get?

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

@Gumbymom It’s Honors Chemistry. My high school does it though. I got 3.28, 3.6, 3.6

Your fully weighted should be higher since your have 4 AP’s junior year and 1 AP Sophomore year and Honors so total extra honors points should be 12 for 12 semesters or (6 qualified classes for the 2 years)

@DaCheaPet just try using the rogerhub calculator

@LeReddit I did but it’s different from what my school has.

@Gumbymom 6 qualified classes but only 8 points for 8 semesters right?

Hey guys,
I have a 4.45 UC GPA Weighted, 4.0 Unweighted
34 on ACT
I did not get an email for letters of recommendations, but I see it in my Berkeley portal. What does this mean?

I am from the class of 2020. I had a 4.0 UW and 4.4 UC and 4.68 Uncapped (Berkeley and UCLA use Uncapped too) GPAs plus a 31 ACT and 2020 SAT and 770 US History, 750, math 2, and 720 bio subject tests. I was asked to submit LOR and I did. I was rejected for Mechanical engineering. I am now an electrical engineering major at UCLA. Honestly it seems to be hit or miss with LOR requests.

@DaCheaPet: Use the Roger Hub calculator plug in 12 extra honors points. The calculator will use 8 points for the capped weighted and 12 points for fully weighted.

Unless you have some extenuating circumstances, major hardships etc…, to explain in your LOR’s, UCB is going to be tough.

Freshman admits for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79::
UCB: 2%

@10s4life I think you only got rejected because you applied to engineering

@johnlimster i just checked my portal and its not there, i think u missed the email.

@LeReddit I like checked my email more than 10 times. I didn’t get anything. But it says it in my portal. Does this mean I’m borderline? I’m also the top 9% from my school. How can I possibly be borderline…

@johnlimster try checking again using the exact link that UCB gave u with ur login info

@LeReddit Yeah, it’s in my portal, but I still didn’t get any email. Weird. Does getting this really mean that you are borderline?

@johnlimster wtf, im just trying to figure out why you would have a LOR request after not recieving an email o.o

Capped UC GPA: 4.05
Uncapped: 4.54 (took 10 AP’s in 10-11)
ELC
SAT: 2310

I know my capped is a bit below their range, but my uncapped is really high, and I had a really rigorous load, and I know they look at this. Also, my SAT is pretty good I think? I am just worried that my stats are so low that I have been automatically thrown out, and this is why I haven’t received a request. Do you guys think this is the case? I applied to L&S btw…

Basically I’m just scared that they looked at my numbers and were like “no point sending this one a LOR; they’re so bad anyway” something like that…what do you guys think? :frowning:

For what its worth, as someone else who applied to L&S and didnt get a LOR request, your stats make me optimistic  @poa34355

I’m an oos applicant who submitted the app 3 days before the deadline. I have not received a letter request. It is almost winter break here so… should I call Cal regarding rec letters, or will I most likely not need the recs?

UC GPA: 4.29
Local Unweighted GPA: 3.88/4.0 (18 AP classes)
ACT: 33
Math II: 720
Major: CS at College of Letters and Science

@mdchang99: If UCB wants LOR’s from you, they will contact you by email. No need to call.
